4 speed in your opinion?

Just build a 727 with a manual valvebody if you want to shift lol. I love torquey engines in front of a manual for the street, but if I'm racing I want to be as consistent as possible. I raced my civic with a stick and my friends civic a couple times, it's easy with a 2-step (anti-lag) system, without it, not so much.

for nostalgia nothing like a 3 pedal car:3gears:

BUT, typewriter would be fun or floor auto...

Equipment failure aside, the average guy will get frustrated trying to win at the track with a 4 speed because consistency is the name of the game when the green light drops.(IMHO) It's a different game on the street and I waited a long time to find the right car when shopping for my 69 Road Runner. She had to be a hardtop and she had to have a 4 speed because every old motorhead knows that the real fun in driving a big block Mopar is grabbing those gears! :headbang:

I keep hearing 4 speeds are more fun. Having driven manual trucks forever i,m tired of poking gears. I dont need a clutch to break the tires. 3800 stall ptc and manual valve body makes my auto burn the hides off whenever I want to ,or can get away with it.

4 Speed is my ONLY choice ! If I went with a slush box the wife would want to take it to the store ! LOL!!

Slushbox? You must be a 60's child! Haha

just my 2 cents, as it has been pointed out throughout this posting 4 speeds are a blast to drive, there really is nothing like a big block with a stick. I had a 71 cuda 440 six pack with a stick, it was a blast to play with but.. just not consistent, and it was brutal on parts. i have total respect for the die hard four speed guys on the track it really is a MAN'S ride for sure! however if you want reliability and consistency and you are hunting the mid to low 10's, go auto. the extra parts that you will need to install to make that stick legal is mind blowing, and ....... what if you dump all that $$ into it only to find that, well it's just not what I thought it would be. you can put a well built 727 with a trans brake and a quality converter to give you that neck snapping launch for less $$. that is just my HFO:happy3:

if your going to run a four speed like already stated just spend the money on a good trans. i've wasted enough on hemi boxes i could have bought a Jerico. I wish i could have ever got enough passes out of one to get my dart dialed in with a stick. Here was last time out with a pedal, was working on getting the clutch adjusted as well as the suspension. wasn't power shifting, just trying to get it dialed in. And also found out later the detroit locker was broke. when the auto went back in it went 10:60. which is off (normally runs 30's-40's), then a buddy told me the right wheel wasn't even spinning in the water box. so that was probably a little bit of my traction issue in the videos. i think the car would have ran around the same numbers or even a little better with the stick if i could have kept tinkering. i was having a hell of alot of fun that day thought!! hopefully one day i can go the Jerico route. i left the clutch pedal in :)

1st pass, don't mind the light. i didn't know it was going to be a pro tree.....

aborted 2nd pass because it spun real bad

3rd pass, was coming around. i would have like to loosened up the clutch a little bit more but never got the chance.

Was that an 18 spline or a 23 spline? What kind of clutch?

By the way thats a heavy A body!

a very tricked out 18 spline and a custom built soft loc

yea, shes over weight. mega block, iron hemi heads, MP cross ram, big cooling system, dana, full stock interior, and 200# of myself.

Absolutely 4-speed. If you get the right clutch you won't break stuff depending on the power level. Like anything that gets abused the harder you run it the more you have tear it down and inspect it. My 18 spline box has gone through a ton of parts over the years and every late night rebuild was worth it.

That said when my 511 pump gas engine goes in the car it will be married to a Lenco 4-speed with a reverser.

my car is a 4 speed and I love it haven't broke any parts yet but we will see like it was said before nothing like a big block and stick

...and neither are Mopars? Why post them...
Well , for your info, the one in the right lane is a 61 plymouth belvedere, stroked 400 , jerico and the left lane I my old partner from texas thunder .....ford! but it does have some Chrysler parts on it....
