400 magnum any good?

Resto rod are cool and they will make up a lot of the hobby as time goes on. Wish you were close, I would by it off you. Back In Missouri where I came from complete rebuildable 400's will bring $200--250 all day long. Some years with the thicker blocks more.

Gents I am not keeping it at all!LOL I only asked because I have one and didn't want to send it to scrap if there was interest in it. 400 chevy 400 ford 400 mopar they ALL suck IMO. Pontiac built the only big HP 400 and that is because they built it before 72. The 400 GTO in 68-69-70 ram air III was 365 HP from factory. That is my opinion and I am sure others as it seems have differing ones. I guess I got my answer. I will most likely use the HP exhaust manifolds and swapmeet the engine for a couple hundred.
Thanks for the replies.

400 chevy..sucks..you have to pour money into one.
400 ford, total crap design and no power...
400 mopar..serious potential and decent in stock form.
theres the difference.

and as youve heard already from others,
if you were any closer id buy it and stick it on a pallet for later.

To be truthful I have never had much experience (just here say) on the mopar 400. The 400 ford and chevy too many times. But I have a 69 GTO ram air III 4 speed. It is a tire sheading beast. But it is a high compression engine built before the down turn.

In comparison a 400 mopar actually has a taller deck then a 454 Chevy. That's partly why they are great for building strokers...lots of room.. When you start making serious hp 440 cylinder walls are weaker then the 400 because they are longer and can develop a stress crack right in the middle of the bore.
We are about 2 get our block and rotating assembly back from the machine shop..its a early 400 block we are turning into 542.
I thinks its a great idea to use the exhaust manifolds on your 426.

Thank you. I have never built a stroker. So not in the know about them. I do know they can make a monster from them if done right. Just trying to cut some cost by using the manifolds since I have them. My neighbor had his 389 Pontiac engine stroked to 496 or something like that. It turned 525 on a dyno with fast injection. I just build old school I guess you cant teach old dogs new tricks.
