400BB hard to start when hot

What about a cool can, like used to be popular back in the 70's. It had the insulated can with a coil of aluminum fuel line inside. That way the fuel will act somewhat like a coolant. Hopefully keeping the carb cooler. Not sure what you could do to keep the fuel cool on long drives, as the ice in the cool can will melt.

Not sure if this was covered or not ?

Especially with Iron heads, performance engines make allot of heat
{yes & even with the turbo rear mounted, it's added heat, compression/thermal energy}
&
the exhaust/heat-riser passage in the heads,
it transferring heat, to the intake manifold,
mainly for smog & cold start/choke operation,
you can block off the heat-riser passage to the intake manifold,
it's just a simple gasket &/or valley pan change,
the phenolic spacer & a heat shield under the carb for deflection, won't hurt either...

good luck

I've been thinking of blocking the heat passage in the intake but haven't got the thumb out yet to order a new valleypan and a new intake (need a singleplane to make the turbo setup work better).
But if i remove the intake and cast a aluminum blocking in the intake, that would work to, or what do you guys think?

I agree with Budnicks. Try this: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/hly-108-70/overview/ and definitely block off the heat riser passages. Casting plugs would be a great solution, although there are easier ways, as have been pointed out. I used the Holley heat reflector gasket/spacer set-up on a friend's motor with good results. Good luck and keep us in the loop.

Today there is a small car show in town and the weather is on our side so FINALY i can do some testing and take som pictures with the thermalcamera. I´ll post the pics as soon as i can.

The first pictures is when i got back after a test drive... the others after sitting 15min with hood closed. And one picture of the starter after 15 min.. just for the fun..
The outside temperature was around 50F.
