i found a 413 with a 727 for 300 depending on the miles is it worth it?

about the only reason it wouldn't be worth it is if it had a rod sticking out the side of the block

Depends on your plans for it. It's a small bore big block and there's not a wide selection of pistons for it....

your right cranky, but, for 300.00, buy it, fill the cyl's full of oil and put it away. you never know. if nothing else it adds to the pension plan. it's going to be a hell of an auction.

The BB 727 is worth having, too. Is it a cable shift?

Depends on the motor. If it needs a rebuild then I'd pass. If it is a good running motor maybe needing new seals then might be a cheap BB conversion for your car if thats what your thinking. If it is from an early B with all the right parts then thats a big plus. Motorhome motor will leave you on the hunt for all the car parts. Check it out real good. May have a rebuild on it already. May be totally shot.

I'd be tempted to offer him $200 just to see what happens. I'm guessing that the engine and trans need complete rebuilds, and that is if there is nothing major wrong with them. You are talking a fair amount of $ to do the rebuilds. If you just want to get the car up and running, you need to find an engine that you can at least hear running before you buy. Remember, you are taking a fair amount of risk that they won't be rebuildable and may only have scrap value. JMHO

Since it's a 413, chances are that it'll have the high mount motor home water pump setup. IE, the pump housing also has ports that go to the heads and the pump shaft and fan will set high up on the engine. It's a huge pump housing and you don't want it on a car. Won't work in a car anyways.

If it's a motorhome 413, chances are high that it is the bastard engine. What that means is, it uses a different block, crank and heads as any passenger car engine. If that's what it is, leave it alone.

As Cranky and Rusty said might have the raised water pump but may not. I seen alot of 413 MH that were normal motors.
Also the raise pump motor used the same block. Different heads and pump.

x2 hence my earlier question, I have a 69 mh 413 sitting in an old mh at my property.
