So I've picked up a 383 in need of a rebuild for my super bee. This car will be my DD and I'm looking for the motor to last a a fair bit before needing another rebuild. I would like to use stock 383 rods. What machine work needs to be done, but the biggest problem is piston choice, I would like to get good pistons for a good price, I know about Diamond racing. How do some of these do? http://www.summitracing.com/int/sea...4294883983&SortBy=Default&SortOrder=Ascending

Any help would be great, I'm new to engine building, thanks

I would use the Ross pistons and 440 length rods. They will be much lighter and the valve relief will allow a larger cam.
If you are only going to use a really small cam, the Speed Pro pistons would be Ok, but check the piston to valve clearance.

We can build you some really nice stroker pistons at my work (CP Pistons). Have made a lot of Mopar pistons here. Can discuss further details with you on your combo and options. You can call me at (949)567-9000 and ask for Mike in sales. Just a sample pic below of some of our work and one of my NHRA s/s customers in action.
That's with a 273!

do you already have a crank?
No I don't but if you go on Kijiji (Canada's Cragslist) you can find them pretty cheap.
Also, would a edelbrok Victor be a good intake for this engine?
Also would stock oiling be enough?

i would suggest to buy a complete rotating assy. i got mine from 440 source.

New to engine building and building a stroker from Craig's list and Summit Racing is a sure plan for heartache and disaster. PM Challenger340 and pay him to advise you. He is in Canada and is supreme professional in building these engines. Let him guide you through the process or even have him do it for you.

great response IQ52
I'm ok with the heartache, I really like to research these kinds of thinks, I'm just not ok with the disaster, I cant afford a kit and was planning to find a local machine shop to check my rotating assembly, I could post my build. If a machine shop checks everything for clearance how much can go wrong, right?...right?

A qualified machine shop would be able to check and choose the correct parts that fit your budget. Disaster? I have an excellent machine shop, but even so I find must verify all their work as I assemble my engines, because they occasionally make errors.

One of my better Canadian customer engine building shops is in Mississauga, Ontario. Good machine shop and can help you to source the correct parts for your build. Call: Beaty & Woods Ltd. Ph# (905)405-8505 and ask for Charles.
