440 budget build what do you think?

Well,
I weighted a stock piston last night,
stock wrist pin = 226 gram
1976 stock 0.16 down the hole piston without rings = 806 gram
I will use my stock pistons for now and pay a little extra and get edelbrock rpm 75cc heads.
The L2355f pistons would have to be lightened 52 grams, it´s a lot ,but probably possible, by milling underneath the crown and
shorten the wrist pin.

Another question, will this oilpan fit a 64 b-body? sum-g3511

Ordered some parts.
arp rod bolts
all bearings
piston rings (going with the stock 0,16 down the hole pistons)
freeze plugs
all gaskets
m63hv oil pump
summit oilpan and pickup
tf-2 shift kit
hughes pro street 3000 stall tq
3.73 ring and pinion
install kit for ring/pinion
mp porting templates

This is my (current) plan.
Mill the 452 heads .05
template port job
back cut the valves
(All the head work I can do myself for free)
0,02 head gasket
will end up with 8.4 comp

My cousin had a pair of old headers that I got for free.
xe 284 camshaft kit
rpm intake manifold
750 edelbrock or 850 holly dp
mp orange ignition box (on the car when I bought it)

If that has a cast crank your wasting your time its going to break leave well enough alone

The parts showed up last weekend, just have to order 0.020 head gaskets, rpm intake and the camshaft kit plus chrysler turquoise engine paint.

Hopefully I can hone and clean the block during this week.

Ordered summits oilpan and pickup, this pan has a longer sump, probably need to cut and weld it. Time will tell.

I just noticed this thread. I agree with the idea that there's as much or more to good ET's in the car, than a fancy motor. Get a good tork converter & 3.73 or 3.91's will work good. If you're playing with the head's there' a lot of power gained by grinding the bowls below the valve seats. You don't need to go nuts at first but opening the bowls up really gets results. Double pumper carbs are fine if you work at tuning them & go smaller rather than bigger, 650 to 750 would work great on a fairly mild motor. Good luck!

Hughes 3000 tq, have't found much info on this converter but time will tell how good it will perform with this combo.
Will order a b&m flexplate, rpm manifold.
The crank is in the block and the rods have gott arp bolts in them.
The heads will be template ported, stock valves will be backcutted. Also they will be cut down.004 to bump up the compression.

I've only seen cast cranks give up under extreme useage or due to bad machine work. 12's or even 10's can be done on cast cranks. What's the issue?

I´m just south of Jönköping, well the guts are in the block, just gonna lube her up and pry the shortblock in the back of my Honda crv, so I can test fit the engine in the car making sure the oil pan fits. (Car is in an other location).
Are you gonna go boosted?

If the car will spend anytime on the street or with street gear ratios, consider a 750cfm vacuum carb. Much more forgiving. If you don't have too much cam, I really like the Edelbrock carbs. Easy to tune and you don't spill gas anywhere changing jets/rods. Same basic design as Ma Mopar used, and you know she's a stickler for for tight tuning.

If you're gonna cam it up (for the sake of discussion, I'll call it more than around [email protected]"), consider a Holley as they handle low vacuum rumpy cams better. At low idle vacuums, the Edelbrock will be harder to tune.

This is just MHO from my experience, and you'll find as many opinions out there as there are belly buttons.

Will break in the cam (comp xe284, [email protected]" ) with the edelbrock 750 performer, since it ran with this carb before I pulled it apart.
Then I will swap it for a holly 850 dp I´ve got, have all the things for tuning hollys.

You can get 35 grams off the L2355F by changing the pins for a start.
Ordering the P1215 federal mogul pins will yield 35 grams by itself over the L2355F/L2295F pins.... the other 10-15 grams is doable on the piston itself.

The CompCams old standby XE284H will go to 550/550 Trq hp with ported Eddy's on a non-Stroker regular 440, been there done that lots.
I can put up some Dyno Sheets if you want.... but no secret here, Head Porting is the key.

Had to modified it a little bit to fit the 64 k member.

Keep at it. I love the budget stuff. The cast crank will be fine, just a pain to balance. We currently run close to 800 hp through a stock cast 360 crank.
