440 oil pressure issue

Still looking for 'real world' examples of failed Fram filters. Not only raced but worked in the speed shop business for a lot of years and never saw proof of a Fram filter causing any oil/bearing related failures. Do you honestly believe that a corporation as large as Allied (Fram's parent company) would build a line of filters that would 'disintegrate' after use? Wouldn't the threat of a class action suit supersede any savings they might realize from using 'inferior' products in building their filters? As I stated, I have no problems using Fram based on my 50 years of experience. I also occasionally use a K&N or Wix to change the look my engine compartment....lol. We can just agree to disagree if that's alright with you. BTW, once we're out of the military, we can stop using the 'Carry on' phrase...lol

Paladin06: No help. Talk is cheap. Let's see some pictures of engine carnage that can be directly tied to the failure of a Fram filter.

I wonder how many people have experienced filter drain back problems? I wonder how many people even know what it is, and the cause and effects? I wonder how many people just parrot what they here on the internet or at some cruise in? I wonder how many people try to think for themselves to find solutions rather than be told what there solutions should be? I wonder how many big block mopar people understand their engines oiling system? sometimes the internet is the worst place for problem solving.

I only had one Fram filter issue, the case was punctured by a rock kicked up by the car in front of me. Oil pressure is always around 50psi when at operating temp using 10w30 oil. I would not be surprised to find that Fram makes filters for other big name brands, Wal Mart brand antifreeze comes from the same place as Prestone.

I wonder, who wrote the book of love ?

I am one of your wishful fantasy people. I can tell you first hand there is a loss of oil pressure. First you notice a 20 psi difference then when you hear that clanking on a cold start up you know. FRAM = JUNK no question about it, stock air filter is one thing but they need to stop making oil filters! WIX / NAPA / K & N hell I think motorcraft is probably even better.

I wonder how the hell that Kenyan got elected...twice..

Pretend this is a picture of me just shaking my head and rolling my eyeballs...You are actually trying to tell us that you install a Fram filter, start your motor and note the oil pressure and then remove the filter and install a different brand (any of the ones you mentioned) and the pressure increases 20 pounds? Really?
I'd like to witness that experiment...because , like I said, when I change brands occasionally, I see NO difference in pressure. Well, to each his own. Like is said, opinions will vary.

Carry On is a statement I have used numerous times when in discussions such as this. It is meant to attempt to move things along. Has nothing to do with my being retired Military. I use it all the time. Perhaps you would prefer "Continue On" or just plain "Continue".

Dave I will not attempt to discredit your 50 years of experience as you so aptly stated you have. That is quite a stretch. I on the other hand have may be 20 plus years of experience and what I have been able to obtain info wise is that the FRAM products are an inferior product compared to all others. There are countless studies and surveys being conducted that will support this. Just Google or Bing, etc. Fram Oil Filters and an abundance of info about them is available. Most are on the very negative side. Just way too many to get more specific here. So what does all this mean then? I guess go ahead and continue with your using them. It is purely only a matter of time before you will experience what others have when using Fram Filters. This is all I will be commenting on about this topic. Fram will never grace any of my motor operated vehicles....cr8crshr/Tuck

I had a fram oil filter fail on one of my daily drivers (non mopar) Kept getting a CEL and v tech code thrown. Ended up at the dealer with exploration into the head, who-hoo. Turns out the low seal (in the cup area) of the filter let loose and that o ring seal made its way into the head and jammed up an oil passage. It didnt hurt anything but was restricting oil flow to the head, (thus throwing the code) I called Fram to file a claim, they dealt with my dealer, and they had to open up the filter and send pics to fram(I got a new chain and head gasket out of the deal). Fram made good on all dealer costs (2400.00) Im glad they made good with the claim, however I wont use their filters and have switched to wix after doing the research on filters. Just my experience, yours may differ.

1/2 the parts stores I have been to over the years have some sort of filter cutaway display.... wix or purolator..... never had a fram fail on me but I can take someone's word for it.. there's been more than a hand full of people say there junk that's what we're on this for.

Actually, I'm 69 years old and started working with motors in my Dad's Automotive Repair shop when I was 12, so it's been over 50 years. Sorry about the 'carry on' remark. As an Army enlisted vet, the phrase raises my hackles, because so many officers used it to 'dismiss' folks when they were done talking.
In the end, we each have free will so I'll continue to believe what I've experienced and everyone else can go by theirs. Hope you all have a pleasant day.

You buy the oil and filters and we can use my motor to experiment on no problem come on over bring beer too. Fram just sux man it is what it is a proven bad product maybe it wont cause a blown motor but it is not a filter you want on your big block at all and yes I do check my oil pressure when I start up, sit at idle, and floor it! your dang right I watch it like a hawk if it dropped to 0 that is an instant engine kill time and pull to the side of the road. I also watch water temp and volts. Doesn't everyone?

Dave you got me by 4 years and yes I can see where that would rankle ones shorts being prior enlisted. I put 34 years in the AF both active and reserve and we never had that kind of dismissal directed at us "E's". Army is a whole nother animal so to speak...cr8crshr/Tuck

What happened to me would have been the same with any filter, but I was using a fram HP.The fram HP filter will flow about 10 to 12 GPM. My Milodon oil system flows 19 GPM at idle and increases with RPM.When 19 GPM hits a filter that flows 12 GPM the bypass opens and flows unfiltered oil into the oil system. I had a roller lifter failure causing total contamination of the engiigurene. It took some homework to figure out how all this crap got past the filter.
I now use duell Moroso filters that flow 16GPM each:icon_cyclops_ani:
