So i decides to do the drivers side motor mount on my 440 (i did the pass side a couple months ago). and this is what i found...

holy schnikies!!! wonder how long it's been like that!!!

anyways, my problem is, is that whomever put the motor together many moons ago decided to put the bottom, motor-side bolt (the long one that goes through the mount) backwards!! #@@$^*#@!!! me thinks i wont be able to put the mount back in there without taking this bolt out. pic...

am i going to have to take the oil pump out?? what all does that involve?? the manual shows only two bolts on the top...it cant be THAT easy can it??

im really hoping not to have to take it out, but i dont see any other way.

any ideas, opinions and thoughts are welcome...

thank you gentlemen (and i use that term loosely lol) :blob1:

I'll ease your mind while you wait for the experts to chime in with the exact procedure .. it's not that big a deal to take off the oil pump and put it or another back on.

Do you have a priming shaft?

Yeah. 4 bolts and it's on the floor. Nuthin to it.

BOOM! while i was typing :)

Thanks guys, never pulled one off before and didnt want to screw it up!!

It has a gasket. You might want to get one just in case. And it just takes a little wigglin to get it back in. You'll see. The shaft is a male hex and the oil pump has a female hex. You're not a virgin, are you?

since u got the old mount out, why dont u put the new moun back on it like it is? if u pull the pump later for any reason, u can fix it then... u may have to jack driver side up a lil bit to get new mount in but it should go on

with that bolt there, i dont think i have enough clearance to put the whole thing back as one piece. even jacking the motor up. just to get the top mount off, i had to really finagle it to get it off.

Pull the pump and reverse the bolt. Right thing to do and will stop the next owner from calling you nasty names. When you're done you'll wonder why you even considered any other way. Lots of satisfaction in doing a job right...

Amen. Preach on brother Dave. And now for our next hymn, turn to page 440 and we will sing "Oh For A Thousand Mopars To Sing".

LOL Rusty!! AAAAAmen!

yeah, you're right Dave, i dont half-*** anything. MUCH less my baby...didnt get a chance to work on her today, went over to my parents' to help them out with house stuff.

hopefully tomorrow i'll fix it. ill let y'all let know how it goes.

thanks for all the thoughts!

Well, here it is...not too bad overall. used the open part of the k member and shoved my ham-fist through dere with a 3-way-bendable socket wrench. took a bit of persuasion to dislodge it, but she came out nice.

finished scraping gasket material on the pump itself, now it's on to the block.

got da bolt out, now it's all a reverse process to put all the parts back...motor mount, oil pump, steering box, starter, exhaust manifold...whew! got a bit of work left and some thinkn' to do before spring!!

mucho thanks for all da replies gentlemens (you too Pete!!)

You can apply some chap stick or candle wax to that gasket and it will not stick if you ever have to remove.

When the bolts are in "RIGHT" you don't have to remove the pump, whoever put it together made a very easy job hard !!

Don't worry brother, if I had it, I would show it off too. Beautiful.
