Ok so my vacuum advance is hooked up to the little tube on the base plate of my carb. I'm guessing its no vacuum at idle. Better to hook up to manifold vacuum?
If you have it plugged into a port on the base plate of a Holley, it is plugged into manifold vacuum. Nothing wrong with that as long as it is timed accordingly. In fact, it is arguably better plugged into manifold vacuum.
Yes, you WANT vacuum at idle. To check, pull off the vacuum hose from the carburetor while it's idling. Put your finger over the port. If it tries to suck your finger into the port you've got the right one.
