440 source 500 cubic or 512 inch stroker and why

Those numbers are impressive! How do the above engines handle the street driving?

My motor isn't in the car yet. Won't see much street miles. Just down to local Friday night show.

Out of curiosity , I'm thinking the same thing as this post for my 440 . Gonna be mostly a street car but I like thrash on it pretty good . That being said is it a prerequisite to run a main girdle ? Thanks , this was a good thread and answered a Lot of questions for me also

My cuda is strickly a street car. it's a shaker car so no max wedge heads and I kept the six pack. I love this thing on the street. Purrs like a kitten at 26-3 grand on the high way. 72 mph at 3 grand (410 gears - 29 inch tire with a hemi 4 spd).

I`m wondering what over bore you guys are talking about. 440 source calls all their 440 wedge ,4.250 stroke combo 512. if it`s .030 over it a 505. has to be .060 over to be a 512. (not good for ring seal)

Plenty of 440s at 60 over even strip use only engines. Mine is 60 over. Had to go that far to get ring seal because of chamfer issues at the top of two cylinders. As long as the cylinders check out with a sonic test then you are good to go.

My 511 (low deck) does quite well on the street. It hasent been on a trailer yet, even for going to the track. The cam and cylinder heads really dictate the street charistics. If I was running a road gear and a tight converter then my cam would be a bit much. I've been 10.9's through the mufflers with both a six pack and a single plane with a 1050 annular. Drive the car everywhere, and those heater hoses are not just for looks!!

The source kits are 55 over not sure exact cubes with 4.250 crank and 7.1 rod but they work good... I've screwed a few together other than pin fit issues they are legit

Go with arp2000 rod bolt upgrade for only 75 bucks

Source kits have other issues. They are good value, but I've yet to have one (probably 10 kits over 10 years maybe?) that I considered ok to run out of the box. Rods are always a problem. Pins are always a problem. Cranks are always just barely within factory specs but always have taper and some out of round. Just a fact of life with lower price point parts.

I'm not saying they are ready out of the box at all just to be clear.

There great kits if your an engine builder and know what to check. I never consider any aftermarket part ready to run out of the box.

Just did a 512 this winter. Been in the car since and running very strong! It's a 400 block. With 440 source's price on stroker kits being the same for the 500 and 512 my thought why leave anything out there? Go big or go home! Crazy tourque, speed! Car just doesn't stop pulling. I haven't found top end yet. Now, that said, the car itself isn't ready for that kind of speed. Got a little suspension and steering to do before really getting after it.

My compression is in the high 9's. Runs on pump 93 gas only. Heads are the CNC stealth from 440 source. Great head for the money! Also the 571 hydraulic roller cam they offer too. I had very good luck with 440source too. Great to work with and orders came in complete, nothing missing, etc.

All Just depends really on what you want to do with it. Mine is just a 383 looking street sleeper! Lol!
Hope I helped you a little. If you've got any other questions shoot me a pm I'll be glad to help if I can..
Good luck
how much noise does the 571 hyd. rollers make ? I`ve had a couple sbc that made more noise than solid rollers. went w/ a solid roller in my 505, it`s not too bad ! mine is a hughs, race balanced, 7.1 rod, 2.2 crank journal,.030 over, 10.3 comp., 292extreme solid roller, 440 block, main girdled, on a motor plate, w/ raised port heads, has no vibration at all. anyone care to guesstimate h.p. and torque ?

What heads, m/w or standard port, ported heads, how much valve lift, carburetor, happy dyno (most are) ? ALot depends.

Bob, don't notice any extra noise. I like the cam. Lopey but not ridiculous! Very street worthy.. Again no more noise than my old 383..
