440source RB distributor anyone know about these?

They're not worth fighting with. When you approach a cam in the 230 degree range @ .050 or larger you'll have to toss the 440 Source/ProComp Distributor. These cams require so much initial advance, that by the time you bend the tabs to restrict the total advance, the plates the tabs are attached to have bent up and hit the advance weights. Its just not a good setup for anything but stock cams. Get an MSD, FireCore50, Mallory, Summit Street/Strip(Mallory, just cheaper) or some other performance distributor.

Not true! The 10 year old in the center grinds their cranks on his 3rd shift.
LMAO

Procomp...... What a joke

You want it right?

Search "mopar distributor tuning" google

yes it does, we are still in the process of tweaking it but that was the last full reading we left with, funny cuz I have a little lean condition going on..going to swap needles to one size larger to see how it pans out.

Doesn't 40* sound like a lot of full mechanical advance?
Depends on the static compression ratio and the cam. I've had two engines actually run the best with 50 total!! Both were in the low 8-1 range....or worse lol. One was a stock 72 318 block with 360 heads on it and a 480 lift cam with over 230 at .050 It was a dog out of the hole but ran 102 in the quarter @ 13.51 with a ton of gear hitting 6200 rpm.

Well I guess I should have posted my specs lol......

Update: After two attempts I was able to get the tabs bent enough to get a total of 35 degrees of timing.

Ign timing

Get some extra lite springs for a gm hei,set total timing at 38 @ 3000 will start up easyer with advance in dist if you limit your adv in dist you have to run to much initial timing & will have starting problems

Timing

It usually best for dist to have about 20 deg adv in the weights

I have about 15 initial and 34 total now what should I do to tweek it out. It idles at 1k in park and tries to idle in drive around 600. But dies at a stop once warmed up. Need a higher stall...another thread....also edelbrock 800 I thonk is crap as well....hard to dial in the timing with multiple issues.

converter

in my opinion your gona need at least 3ooo to 3500 converter

yes but with that much cubes no problem i use a wide band o2 data loger for fuel air fuel ratio best tuning tool i ever had other than the drag strip worth the money you may be lean at idle, wrong springs in metering rods ,idle circut maybee to small

its very difficult to tune over the computer but the wide band tuner is really really really worth the money daytona twin tec, inovative dont get one that has a dial, get one thats digital, and make sure you get wide band NOT NARROW BAND I HOPE I HAVE HELPED CHARLIE KEEL

This motor is old school, I wont be using any electronics to tune it lol I i can't get basic idling right I will sell the car ;)

thats ok my motor is pre school lol,get a vacume gauge & see how much vac old school motor has in nuetral try putting hand over carb a little at a time & watch vac gauge if vac increases idle circut is lean is that old school enough good luck ck
