440source

re my post from monday
with Iron rockers (or stock) and more lift you can use lash caps
much easier than lowering the shaft :)
but do get the geometry right- your camgrinder is counting on it for best valve motion (float, seat bounce etc)

Here is the ballance sheet. Just got the kit.

Wanted to check piston weight but my old Dial a gram scale only goes to 600 grams. Don't see any grinding marks on the rods to weight match. Might take the whole shebang to the machine shop for shits and giggles. Othere than that looks like good stuff.

My kit is the -24 dish 40 over kit 400/512. The bearing weight is different so they are weighing every kit.

Well, I pulled the trigger today and ordered the 440source 470 assembly. I decided to use the Edelbrock heads I have on hand. They were freshened up last year. Should be ready to bolt on, but I'll double check them before installing.
Now the camshaft selection starts.

Should be a good engine. Camshaft selection is pretty easy once you know how you intend to use the engine.

I would have a hard time believing that they didn't. There is no room for close enough in engine building.

440 said they all need fluffing, you get what you pay for I guess. Hopefully the rotating kit needs no fluffing.
Strange use of the term....I've never been "fluffed" or paid someone else to fluff my engine parts!

Not sure if you have heard....
In the **** industry, there is a person that has the job of keeping the male actors "ready'.....The person is called a "Fluffer".

Maybe the bolts on the rods?

I didn't see any grind marks on the rods or pistons. The entire assembly is going to the machine shop this week to be double checked.

Mine is -4cc. Which should be heavier than the -17cc. However, without having a -17cc piston for comparison it's hard to say how much meat is below the domes.

Getting things "perfect" is great for the $50,000. and up engine builds but if you're doing that for a street or mild race engine you're wasting the customer's hard-earned dollars
A Waste?!?!?!?!
Hardly!!!!!!
Perfect is the only acceptable word and end to the build. Anything less is stupid. Build an exceptional quality, get an exceptional quality engine. Build Mediocre, get mediocre. And then do it again later.
