470 low-deck build

Did you guys take a video?

My first starts haven’t been pretty. just running back and forth between topping antifreeze, checking gauges, setting timing, adjusting throttle, LISTENING... running for the tool I inevitably forgot... nothing anyone wants to see!

I can’t wait to get my first start video, I’m sure it’ll be hilarious

We weren’t expecting the camshaft to be this aggressive in terms of sound (video doesn’t do it justice). I’m guessing it must be due to the increased exhaust duration and fast ramp rate, as the calculated overlap led me to believe this would be much milder than our .590 MP. Surprisingly, my father and I both agreed this is the better sounding camshaft. This is nothing but an Ultradyne grind at heart, in a Lunati package (the voodoo line was created by UDHarold). Total break-in time was 30 minutes. 15 @ 2250 rpm. 15 @ 2000 rpm. Just bled the brakes again and changed over to ATE TYP-200 dot-4 fluid. Registered for another two years. Exhaust is going on today. May tune a small amount tonight. Still going to take it to the dyno after the engine has 500+ miles on it.

Side note - As you can see, my father built a new garage (100% by himself, hammered every nail in by hand, built to identical codes as a newer home) and we have no electricity at this point; working off extension cords and portable work lights. Big step up from working under a carport with wood flooring. Will purchase a lift this upcoming year, already has 4,000psi concrete down.

People often say a carburetor is difficult to start and won’t idle. This was a cold start, my father didn’t even touch the throttle. Cranked it from outside of the car. Haven’t even started tuning on it yet. This thing is -loud-, we’re using our outside voices, practically yelling, yet y’all hear in the video how quiet we sound. 9” length bullet mufflers with 3.5” NASCAR oval x-pipe and boom tubes. I will probably do some research and attempt to install something like the active exhaust system components from a totaled SRT or Scat Pack (392) car. Seems like a good fit for this application.
