489 pinion shim depth. Help!

on the 489 case. I always put the shim under the bearing cup in the case, like a dana 60, you don't have to mess with the bearing.

I leaning towards this...what size?
I just read an article that recommends this, and a shim under the bearing as well.

Upon further research I have decided to forgo this suggestion and start with a shim under the pinion bearing instead.
