I'm having trouble finding the best throttle cable for my setup, not really sure what length I should get. Any suggestions? I have a holley 750 on a stock 440 intake with a 1" spacer.
It'll be a very short test drive, like back and forth on the cove road in front of my house, about 1000' of pretty clean pavement. But thanks to your story I'll walk the route and look for any rocks..I'd at least put the front fenders on, you don't want a rock flying up and messing up the paint or window or...
Only speaking from experience. I took an old Porsche for a ride once with no glass or fenders, sitting on a car ramp... got two rocks to the face...

Mine were pretty crusty before I cleaned/wire brushed, painted and put anti-seize on them. When I screwed them back together I thought they felt a little loose, probably from removing the corrosion off the threads. That was about 5 years ago,. Paint shop dust got in a lot of places under my car that I haven't cleaned or seen yet like on them. Not that that was a factor since the 50 year rust is what killed them.I made sure to pull mine apart and grease them up before assembly.
Here's a couple more pics after I finished on the lid.
