$500- 68 charger

Can you really blame the reindeer for not wanting to haul that elephant down from the north pole.

lol, That is classic, unless he is keeping them for the sleighs that work over time when that cool reindeer's nose isint blinking with the LED equipment and he needs all the power he can muster! Couldn't help it, he has one he uses anyway, how in the heck could he go across the whole world in one night without the "elephant" power!!!

Speed will kill unless your a jolly fat man with a HEMI powered machine, one with glowing eyes that ONLY Mopar members would recognize... :rolling:

I mentioned a while back about the problem I created by putting my door/roll bar in the way of letting me use my int door handle. I saw these pics of dvw's 64 belvedere on another thread and think that type of (up & down) handle mechanism will solve the problem. Any ideas where to find some of those?

Thought you'd like this picture Kid. Took it at St. Louis this year.

Did you see the Daytona kit for sale here Kid?

Thnx, I did now. That's a good deal. They are calling those drag cars superbirds but they look more like a daytona to me. If I ever get thru with my current car I'd like to do a 69 clonetona street only driver. I'd buy that kit for future use if I had $1500 laying around...lol..

I hope you do get that kit Daytona, watching this build that one would be pretty cool!!! I know what you mean though with the "If i had" I think it every time i see something in a magazine or see a HEMI, and so many other cool things here like a top of the line Dana that ill bet would fit well in a 69 RR :) OR a 73 clonearunner! lol

Just read through your thread DK you've done some awesome work there. Look forward to the finishing touches going forward.

I brought the old 383 in and will probably tear into it just to see if there is any life left in it, and to see about rebuilding the trans. There is a slim chance I will put the 383 in the car temporarily but I will probably be building a 400/512 stroker also for later. Can you guys tell by looking if that trans is a 727? Or what?

I've seen these pivoting, bushing-less, tubular lower control arm struts before but never thought about the benefits. Makes a lot of since how they would make a front end work better. Gonna put these on the list of stuff to get later.. https://www.reillymotorsports.com/store/product.php?productid=16168&cat=&page=1
My buddy has a few old NASCAR Mopar's. The front of the strut rod mount is a factory upper ball joint welded into the K-frame. The front of the strut rod is threaded onto the ball joint stud. Cheap and functional.

I separated the trans and motor, and took the motor mostly apart. It is still questionable whether the old 383 is any good or not. There was a nice nest under the valley pan. The owners were going in and out thru the distributor hole. lol..

Ewwww . . . . I'd be wondering too . . . think it might need a little freshening up . . . ( LMAO )

I have a few possible routes that I may go here. If, and it's a big IF, the 383 could be honed, re-ringed, and got running for low bucks I could put it in till I get a 400/512 together. If it will cost more than I want to get the 383 going I'll strip it to bare block and if the block is ok I'll clean and lube it up, put it in a bag and save it for a possible future buyer of the car that wants the original #s motor. Or if the block is no good I'll make a trip to the scrap metal salvage yard. Any other ideas welcome..

Maybe it will encourage you to know that my 400 had 6" of water in the pan for a long time and it runs beautifully but only after throwing the complete rotating assembly in the trash for a 440 one and boring it .060 over. My advice coming from my experience would be don't waste your money on something you really don't want, save it for the 512".

Looking really nice man! Thanks for the input on the grill frame on my thread. Looks like we will both be boxing up all the plastic for a later install.

Daytona, ive been away for awhile but i do promise you im looking forward to the engine build, Im no engine builder at all and have no advice or suggestions but i am interested in how this will turn out... I now do wish i learned more about the building of power plants for the cars lol, now, im to old, but watching! :) 512 sounds like a LOT of fun!

I'd pull a main cap & rod cap and see what the crank looks like. You might be able to hone the cylinders, but I'd check the lifter bores first. I would think you could pick up a running 383-400 for cheaper than you could get that one runnning. Just my 2 cents. Where you located Kid?

I'll add a "makes you feel any better" scenario for you as well. I built a 383 for my uncle's '66 Charger. Piston's so stuck they soaked in tranny fluid and diesel for 5 months and still needed to be pounded out with a chunk of 4 x 4 and a 4lb hand maul. All lifters had to be literally preyed out, and the heads where filled with dead mice, rust and field corn.

That motor is happily propelling his Charger down the road, as of last fall... Hope to see you have the same luck with yours. Never know.
