505 Trick Flow 270 Build

I was very close on my guess. Hemirunner and I were chatting before the dyno results. Originally I guessed 820’s because I thought it was a 13-1 motor. But when he told me the CR I guessed high 780’s-low 790’s. I was pretty close. Very impressive time bomb build LOL.
Yeah you nailed it! I read through a lot of Andy’s tech articles while working with these heads. His 470 went 1.597hp/cube with similar compression and a dry sump illustrating the potential of these heads so our 1.553hp/cube is in the ball park but shows areas for improvement. I could have bolted on a vacuum pump and seen a slight improvement but it isn’t gonna be ran that way in the car so it was a mute point.

Depends on what it’s in and how it’s used. This engine would have to have a different cam and springs for your application but I think a 700hp stock block stroker would still be alive and well in your car long after your gone if maintained properly. The block was nice and thick when I sonic checked it.

Most performance parts are advertised using horsepower figures. They really need to use power per cycles to give that indicator. The rods in this application might go one or two seasons at 1500hp being raced frequently but might last several decades or longer in this engine in its application as a drag engine knowing how often it’s really gonna get raced. There are no hard, fast rules on power or longevity like the internet forums would like to convince you of.
 
Thanks. They are a 2-1/8 dyno header with 16” long 4” collector. Kinda look like a sprint car header. The Superflow 901 dyno chassis doesn’t like the Mopar under chassis style headers.

I just spotted the dyno numbers, excellent HP/TQ! and nice to see good actual numbers on the 270's. Hemirunner have you any idea the difference between the headers you used on this dyno test compared to TTI 2" under chassis headers?

I don’t have any solid A-B testing but I would guess the 2” TTI would make more low rpm torque and a little less peak power.
 
Here you go. This was a lot of work. Improvement could be made but it’s a cost vs gain scenario when renting dyno time.

Any updates on how this ran in the car?
He was still getting it all together at the end of August (waiting on a trans and converter I think) so I don’t think it’s been to the track yet. I’ll check in with him and see where he’s at with it.

The 448 is on hold while I finish the TT hemi.

Original plan included one. I backed the plan off from a 4.50 stroke to 4.25 stroke since it’ll see some rpm. I opted for the aluminum caps and a scraper instead of the girdle. It’ll be going in a fairly light A-body. It’s not an all out effort, just a nice durable piece. Mainly strip but might see the street a time or two.

This engine is a bracket race/car show/ cruise in type deal that won’t see many street miles. In a real street car, I’ve used BAM, Morel and even the comps. My 572 Hemi ran comps for ten years on one set running a bunch of drag and drives. My current 540 runs the BAM bushing lifters and it’s been together for 5 year’s running multiple drag and drives, lots of street driving and racing. Keeping the ramp rates sane, and making sure the valve spring rate and rpm range are in alignment is key to longevity. I’ve seen lifters beat to death in a matter of weeks if it’s not happy.
