Bought my first Mopar when I was in high school. I worked at a local late model salvage yard when a coworker said a woman wanted to sell an old plymouth and asked if I was interested. So one afternoon I went to take a look at it. 63 Belvedere 4dr with a 318. The woman who was selling it said it her grand father bought it brand new. Gave her the $500 and hauled it home. I've done hardly nothing to it in the 10 years since I've owned it.

I have a 68/9 383 engine and was thinking about sticking it in the car. The 318 runs but smokes. Will the 383 bolt up to the push button transmission? I'm doing the research but I'm more of a 30's-40's ford and 60's chevy guy. Averz Steel 789.jpgAverz Steel 788.jpg

I may be wrong, but I don't think the 318 tranny will bolt to the 383. You may have to find another small block to bolt to the trans.

Thanks for the replys! I'll probably rebuild the 318 this winter since the 383 won't bolt up to the stock trans. When I first bought the car the trans took a dump. I know its a 4dr but I'm not going to do a full resto on it. Just rebuild the engine, trans and front suspension. What is the best tool to use on the rear drums? I have a 65 coronet rear end laying around that I could swap out if needed. The only rust issue is in the panel between the hood and windshield.

What is the white car in front of your '63? Looks like a '56 fury.

The recent issues of Chrysler Power magazine are raving about the Poly engine. The newest issue is on Part 2 of their build of a stroked 392 Poly.

If you can't find them on the news-stands (like I couldn't) you can subscribe, or go here to download the digital copy of the magazine:

I would put the 65 rear end for sure! You might run into a lot of problems getting the rear drums off!

Its a 57 Lincoln Capri 2dr sedan. I'm wanting to sell it. I'm running out of room.

I'll have to check out the Chrysler Power Magazine. I'm pretty sure I saw it on the news stand in the next city over from me.

Put some pictures up and post it in the other car for sale section. Wouldn't mind seeing the whole car.

Went to a local auction today and talked to a guy who has a 63 4dr parts car. Going to go look at it and see if I can bring it back home. What kind of performance can a person out of the original 318?

"68 -69" will "fit"....BUT might be close @ K member. you can make the tranny work.
(get a donor RR Automatic Transmission Cooler Lines with Torqueflite 727 Transmission ?)

:3gears:

Been kicking around the idea of putting the 383 in if I could find another trans. What years would work. Been looking at places that have engine parts for the poly 318.

63 - 65 Big blocks if you plan on keeping the push button shift! Other wise any big block trans. will work you'll have to use the later floor shift set up and drive shaft! The 63 &64 cable trannys used a flanged front joint (constant velocity joint) 65 began the slip yoke style. BTW stay away from the 66-67 trans they use a convertor that only works for those two years! Also the 63-64 is the same thing as the 66-67!

Pulled the engine and trans out of the car. Had the radiator checked out and its bad. Tore the engine apart and was going to have a friend is a machinist and engine builder look at it but he passed away after I pulled it all apart. Found a running 318 from a 61 Belvedere the next county over. Just hope there isn't too many differences between 61 and 63 engines.
