So i need new springs on my 66 satellite. I've been looking around for something that will give me the rake I want. I want the rear wheel opening to sit about 1" to 1 1/2" over the 15" rim. I going to try and post a pic of the car the way i want it. I'm using air shocks right now (the car came with them). I'm thinking super stock springs to get height right but what are people’s experiences with them and street driving.

Let's see some pics of other 66-67 B Body's with different spring setups.

Super Stock springs on the street provide a very rough ride:(, and does set the car up higher in the rear with very little flexing. You will also need the longer rear shocks, I always used a set off a 1/2 ton Dodge Pickup. You will also want to check your pinion angle using SS springs and make sure your rear shackles lean about 45 degrees forward static and a pinion snubber. As for performance they work incredibly well and you will no longer have issues at hooking up:yes:!

For what your looking for I would go with the EHD's or have a local spring shop make you a set or even add a leaf or two to your springs.

Did you mean 4 to 5 degrees or 45 degrees? I've heard I would need a 2" longer front hanger to use SS springs. Local shop wants $250 to rearc with add a leaf but not sure I want to go that way really would rather have a new set. Just for clairity does rough ride mean noticably stiffer tha stock but still kinda manageable rough or 2x4 between the rear and frame rails rough.

The SS springs (my experience is with the 002/003 springs) give a very firm and somewhat jolting ride. I have the MP shocks recommended for the springs. I also added leaf spring sliders, as my shackles were at a very bad angle (rear spring eye ahead of the top of shackle). So, the sliders add to the shock transfer.

It all depends on what you're willing to tolerate (as it pertains to being "manageable") They are much firmer/stiffer than stock. If you want a smooth ride, the SS springs are not for you - unless every road you drive on is perfectly smooth. ;)

Still not sure what to do and i cant drive the car till i get something. Problem is with ride height, The Tires are 275/60-15 and rub the inner well. on the 66-67 there is a slight protrusion up inside the well that rubs the side wall if the car is not jacked up enough like in the picture. I don't believe the XHD springs are going to go high enough. I'm scared if i buy the XHD spring and it's not enough I'll need to remove again and spend more money re-arching those. Is there an affordable option that has the ride height of the SS with the ride quality of the XHD? Any other company's beside MP?

Best bet is have the spring shop do the job take them the car and tell em exactly what you want. SS spring are NOT for drivers unless of course you like riding in a dump truck. Yes 45 degrees as the rear shackle has to pivot forward as the rear springs expand upon launch, otherwise the springs will bind and you will have wheel hop at the very least.

Screw it, I just ordered the XHD springs we'll see what happens.

how close is your tire to the outside wheel well? just a thought but perhaps some wheel spacers may help?

66 & 67's are a real pain to get any kind of wide tire under, especially when racing, best bet is the get a special offset rim so your pulling the tire width in closer to the leaf spring, rather than the wheel opening lip. I think on my 67 GTX the biggest slick I could squeeze in safely was a 9.50

i agree on pulling it toward the spring but sounds like thats the side he's rubbing on? i guess i shoulda asked is it the inside or outside of the tire rubbing on the wheel wells

I drive everywhere with my 54/55 ss springs (3800lb ones). I don't mind the ride at all. And I live in Pa, horrible roads! And I have 275/60-15 tires that don't rub.

So I got the XHD spring and installed them last week I was supprized that they didnt do anything to raise the rear of the car not even a 1/4". you would think that 40 yr old set of springs would sag a lot and so I thoought for sure I would get an inch or so. So I made a set of +2.5" custom shackels that work pretty good. Not the exact height I was looking for but it's growing on me. Handles real good and drives great. I used a porta-power unit to open the inner wheel to accept the tires, looks good and no more rubbing. 275 60-15 mickey thompson on 15x8 with a 4.5 BS.

Is there some fact to that or is this just an opinion? If it is a fact I would be real interested in that argument. Anyone else want to chime in on this?

Fact is, all you're doing is pushing the springs flat. What you need is more arch....which you are NOT getting.

Others will chime in and agree with me

I put XHD's on my '67 BelvedereII, car didn't change in height either. I then bought a set of S/S springs for a 3600lb car, but got two of the heavier right side springs. Wonder if that messed up their inventory! The adaptors have two mounting locations; the upper one put the car at stock/XHD height and the lower one raised the car maybe 3/4". I wonder how the Silver Bullet was set up?

Actually I think I could just remove the shortest leaf on the left side and be back in "spec" but it doesn't seem to matter. My car has run 7.55 in the 1/8th mile, after next weekend I hope to see what it does in the 1/4. Car launches straight, on the street of course it bounces over imperfections in the road. It's got the MP extended length shocks in the rear, stock 318 bars up front and decent life left in the normal replacement style front shocks.

I thought of longer shackles to gain some height, still might try them some time just to see what they do--as long as you don't go "over center" with the shackle's angle it should be okay, but I've never seen them recommended for racing.
