68 Charger production differences

So it would seem the dash medallion and the chrome buttons were changed about the same time?

If you have one that says R/T, that’s an aftermarket piece. The two that came from the factory are the ones in the two pictures that I posted this morning.
The R/T actually came on 68 Coronet R/T's with the optional Rally cluster.... Mike Ross reproduced them based off my original piece...

Here's a couple shots of my originals showing the manufacture date and the peening on back of the chrome buttons. Also on the inside of the map pocket is a Naugahyde stamping from 1-68.

My April 15th SPD '68 R/T has the map pocket squares and the fratzog emblem on the cluster

I have to check my original panels and report back, but I think there was a date code stamped on the back of the card. I would have reused my buttons but it looked like they were peened over on the back so I had to get repros. From what I've seen, most of the repro panels didn't include the square buttons. Possibly some do now.
My cards have the date stamped on them, so guessing they all were if the guys doing the stamping was having a good day, lol!

These two pictures show the factory installed "public law" decals. I guess there is no correct way that it's supposed to face.

The one on my green car was the same as a 68 mirror, but without the outer vinyl band.
Thanks. I just read in another thread that there are differences in the tail lights. I'm not sure if it's the housings, or lenses or what, but said something about having "protector tabs" on the early ones...

I've heard that too (on the inside), but haven't seen a picture.

I have one in my 70 Charger R/T SE. I got it from a 68 Coronet R/T.

Hello Bob and all others, The difference is minor and I did not realize it until a conversation with Bob and actually looked at what I have and what was on the car. Mine is an early build 9/67 Charger and on the early taillamp housing there are two protruding tabs that must have been for protecting the reverse lamp bulb socket. The protruding tab style is what my car was equipped with. I have a pair of NOS lamp assembly's, one of each, with and without. Also on the rear window revel to roof moulding my car has a Phillips screw attaching it to the quarter panel. Most have a rivet as shown. Must be factory as there would be no need to remove a rivet that has no purpose other than connecting the two moulding's together. That's all for now. Thunder Road!! Kocan

Ok, new question. My '68 has a vinyl top with a single seam down the middle. I this real or a replacement? Legendary only makes the 2 seam tops for them and says they are the correct top. Anyone else have one with a single seam right down the middle?

Never seen one with a seam down the middle. Most likely it is a upholstery shop special or home garage job.

When you get a replacement top, be sure that it also has seams in the correct location on the A pillars. Legendary makes theirs correctly.

My 68 Charger (SPD 1/22/68) has the no tab tails lights as well as the rivet.

As far as the roof, mine has 2 seams on each side.
