I bought a 68 charger last year with a mild 383, cam , headers, intake , carb(edelbrock) ...I would like to drive it this summer however, it starts and runs great then after a short drive it wants to stall out, I have to pump it to keep it running, once rolling its good again! Feels like its running out of fuel, I have checked for vacuum leaks and found none.......any ideas????were should I be looking???any help would be great!!
p.s fuel pump is new!!

choke does open (electric) I opened hood to check after short drive....

It does sound like fuel from description. If you haven't, check fuel filter, fuel pump(even new ones), lines, etc. if you haven't changed any of that since purchase, you just don't know how long it's been there and how much crap the filter has in it. Good luck! Keep us posted..

I think I will change the fuel pump Wednesday night!!!

here is the mess the previous owner created

I tried installing a holley carb in case that was the problem .....but it hits the hood!!???

Aren't previous owners great?

check your fuel line Routing..
it looks fairly close to the intake, you have headers, theres a ton of underhood heat.
you could be just having Vapors....try putting a couple of wooden clothespins on the line...
i see you have it wrapped already and its on a plate but....

also, did this motor run hot before?
i see some stains but cant tell if they are gas or water..

edit, just for kicks, was this a factory r/t and if not did you upgrade the fuel lines to a bigger size??

ok thank you I will try those things also....
It was a movie car from California, so lots of crazy things have been done...It is a 383 car, with air, wich I have almost everything collected to put back in!!
nice thing about it is 100% rust free and all original panels

....also, I'd check out the coil sir. I had a very similar issue with my 69 Bee.......got hot, stalled....bobbled had to up the idle ect.....

which movie,Grindhouse,by tarantino?
you did say youd changed the coil, but i wonder if youve checked the ballast resistor?

the car was flat black....but I cant be sure it was in that movie...lol
yes I ordered a coil also, got the fuel pump in last night but didn't get a chance to fire it ....bring on Friday!!!!

if you change the fuel pump check the pushrod length while you're in there.

I changed the pump.....no different...I will yank it out and measure.....what length should it be Celt69??

ok...here's an update.... it was running ok....went to cruise night , and ran fine , on way home a small rattle started on passenger side. When I got home it was a little louder and had sprayed oil all over the top of engine!!
I am thinking maybe distributor seal ?? maybe engine has no pcv working??
any thoughts??

I see the passenger side valve cover is capped off. What is on the driver's side cover? Have a picture?

pcv valve but hose comes out front of carb....I am going to pull it and check
