I have a 1968 Dodge Charger RT, looking for carpet for the trunk. Any suggestions/ recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Mine has a checked rubber/ plastic mat.

They all came with a rubber/vinyl type mat. But current reproductions are generally junk. Nothing wrong with indoor/outdoor carpet as who leaves their trunk open for viewing anyhow..

Not me.

had an upholstery guy in Dallas do the trunk in black carpet, looks really clean. loose flap over the tail lights that just hangs and can be tucked under. the rest was done with spray adhesive and they cut and hemmed the carpet for a finished look.

only downside is no mount for spare and jack, unless I go punch through and find them

Am curious, Why do you think that?
You know, I tried to pull it out, cannot get the thing out of the trunk. I need to call the previous owner and ask what magic is required to remove it.

I don't just think it. I know it. The correct jack is shaped like a T.

This is it below....

I have owned more than a hundred second generation Chargers, and I would never put a rug that can hold water in the trunk. Every Charger I ever owned leaked water into the trunk.

had a feeling it was the wrong jack, have changed many a tire and could not figure out for the life of me how to get the jack out of the trunk. Its like its lodged in there.

That vinyl mat you have is 'correct'. Looks new, and the new / repop ones aren't nearly as nice/heavy as the original. Sorry, its the world we live in.
BITD, a lot of us put carpet in the trunk, from shag remnants to automotive style. Personally, I have had carpet matched to the interior cut and bound bitd, but as mentioned, most of these cars leak some into the trunk. If you actually drive the car any, thats not a good combo. You'll need to R&I the carpet every time you wash it too. But if thats what you want, go ahead. Best to have a local trim shop make you some to fit tho; don't know of any aftermarket kits for that. I'd leave the mat...

The original type mat is slippery and you don't need anything sliding in the trunk that would bang the quarters. I'd get a black non-slip mat to cover most of the existing trunk mat. Something like an exercise mat would work.

Some might not know this, but I am a 66-7 Charger fan!!!!. If you had one of those, trunk carpet was standard. Also the first car to reach 150 mph in a major NASCAR race. All others followed the trend. ( not bragging by any means) !!!
