68 charger

I want to buy this 68 charger California car. The numbers on the radiator support and the trunk lid are different than the Vin. # Do they have to match or it is just a production numbers?

In 68 the rad support numbers were a sales order number NOT the VIN. What I'm not sure of, looking at my 68 RR, is my rad support number doesn't match anything else on the car. The fender tag has a SO number clearly visible and I don't recall that matching the rad support number. My car had a left side front ender early in it's life, but it doesn't appear to have had the rad support replaced. And the tag is the one from the car showing all the colors and equipment as installed when I got it in 82.

The numbers on the rad support and trunk lip are not the VIN in 68. But they should match the numbers at the bottom of the fender tag all the way on the right. This is the order# Also in 68 the partial vin number of the engine and trans (if auto) will be at the back of the engine just behind the oil pressure switch. Hope that helps.

Thank you guys. This car does not have the fender tag and originaly it came with 383 but it has 440 on it now. The engine is in a really bad condition. It has to be rebuilt completely. The numbers on the radiator support and the one on the trunk lip are the same but I can't match it with anything else on the car.

Without the fender tag, it won't match anything else.
