Whats the proper install? New gasket with 3m automotive bedding and glazing compound put on body before gasket, than in window channel after installed, before locking it in? Had the glass shop install one with new gasket, and he used nothing. Had water on the guy's floor after washing. Glass shop owner claims it shouldn't need nothing with the new gasket. Someone mentioned use the factory service manual. I figured a glass shop shouldn't have any issue with this windshield install. Customer bought that precision windshield gasket off of ebay.

I had one installed on a 69 Coronet and I installed one on my car. Both leaked a little. After speaking with others that had them done, it seems like a common problem. Every one I know of had them installed with nothing other than the gasket. I think aftermarket gaskets coupled with aftermarket windshields result in fitment issues. I used some flowable silicone afterwards and both were fine.

From the factory, and most important, there was a bead of non hardening sealer ,just across the bottom & about 3 inches up the posts. This was done because the rubber gasket didn`t fold over a pinch weld like the sides & top. This was put on the very inner edge ,so as not to block the "drain holes" in the cowl vent panel & and the gasket would sit in this sealer & form a water seal. Pictured is the cowl vent "drain hole" on the drivers side of my 70 Charger ,before the gasket was installed. Another big point ,anything other then original factory glass, was thinner! The lock in ,on the gasket, would be easier but that meant more of a gap, between the glass & gasket, for water to get in. I used an excellent original in mine, with an NOS gasket, so I had no issues but you could try a small bead of good quality silicone ,on the glass, under the gasket locking lip, before you lock it in. Make sure not to block those rectangular ish, cowl holes. Hope this was some help.

As said, the replacement windshields are thinner than stock, leading to a leakage problem. I've been told that tha AMD windshields are the correct thickness.

I've been trying to find out for sure if the ones trom AMD are the correct thickness.Does anyone know for sure?

I'd call AMD and ask them the thickness of their windshield. Our new windshield came from a local vendor and I used a Precision windshield rubber. No issues with leaking. Used nothing other than the rubber. Had the glass guy install it. Cost me 50.00
