69 Charger quarter extension gap

Just to clarify, the extension fits great along the outer perimeter (NO GAPS)
The problem is the gap under the extension.

Is your taillight panel OE metal or is it AMD? Also did the rear quarter lip line up ok to the taillight panel or did it need to be pushed in toward the taillight panel?

The taillight panel is a patched OE panel.
I dont remember having any problems lining up the panel.

I hope I am wrong, but it sure looks like the top of the tailpanel is welded in to far forward. What does the middle of the tailpanel to decklid flange look like?

Is it possible that the bottom of the tail light panel is welded too far forward and when the top was pulled back towards the rear quarter it created that angle? Oops thats what hunt2elk just said.

The lip of the trunk lid looks like it's over hanging the tail panel, which it shouldn't be...like others have said it looks like the top of the tail panel is forward

Can I get a dimension from the deck filler to the outer edge of the tail panel?
Measuring in the center
Like these I found in my archives.
Looks like 31 inches which I will check later

Here's a couple pics that I dug up from the metal work stage of my '68. This hopefully will give you an idea of the relationship of the trunk lid to the tail panel.

Thanks RT, kinda hard to tell but in the center pic, it looks like the bottom of the deck lid is flush to the trim. Which if you remove the trim the lip would over hang the tail panel.

Yes there is a step there, on mine it's less than an 1/8"...I'll see if I can find a better picture

Here is how I just measured. At both the right and left side inner lip of the tail panel about an inch or so past the radius I hooked the tame measure up. I brought the trunk lid down to just about closed. On both sides to the outer edge of the trunk was 2 7/8 inches. In the center it was 3 1/2 inches. See what yours measures and I can compare mine to what you show on a few posts above tomorrow if needed.

Thank you. Can you check and see if you get that 31 inches? Like in post#28

Hook the tape on the lip at the arrow. Bring the trunk to being just about latched and measure to the outer lip of the trunk lid at the arrow.

Not really sure what I am going to do about this.
Is your car original or did you massage these areas?

My car has been totally blown apart...I had everything from the doors back off at one point. I did rear rails, floor, etc. Now the Dutchman and the tail panel are original to the car and I ended up reusing those. The quarters are CBD, the deck lid is an AMD piece and the quarter extensions are the originals. The biggest issue I had was that on the driver's side, the end of the quarter was angled incorrectly sucking the extension inward past the deck lid. The passenger side was OK. When I modified this area I had my original deck lid on but ended up changing it out. The end of the original and AMD deck lid lined up with the tail panel evenly and I didn't have to mess with that area.
