'69 charger r/t-se: Building my dream car

i was lookin for these picts in my resto thread & i forgot to put them in,oh well they are in your thread & with pics of your repair it should help others that have to face this repair. also nont forget there is a little ledge ? just after the 90deg bend from the roof going down... the chrome kindof snaps under the little ledge...its hard to explain if anyone needs pics of this let me know & i will do a close up pic .

Yep it's got to be a common problem with all the vinyl top cars, hopefully this will help some people out :icon_thumleft:

And I'm not next to the car right now so I'm not sure which ledge you mean ?

Found the ledge Charles was talking about, its just a slight lip along the edge of the roofline. (above the sharpie line in the picture) in my case I'll just form the lip with All-metal after welding. (the weld itself might even be enough to form it from)

Well sorry I've been lagging getting around to the rear window fix guys. I've just been really busy trying to get the whole rear section of the car sorted aside from that, it's been a lot more work than I thought it would be fixing the previous owners' past bodywork sins. :BangHead:

But on the bright side I've got some good progress to report, the trunk is smoothing out nicely with grinding, and I finally got my lower quarter patch welded in! Feels really good to get rid of that screwed up patch that was there before and see a nice new panel in place
:eek:ccasion14:

The corner was fun trying to get to fit, had to cut out a section of tailpanel because of all the metal welded on from the previous "repair," but with a little convincing she came together really well. I'll just make a "t" shaped patch bent down the middle to weld in and clean it up.

Hopefully now I can finish stripping and painting the rest of the undercarriage this weekend, but all in all it's a great feeling having that out of the way and seeing it all coming together.

lots of work, keep it up....

Thanks guys! I'm hoping to have the drivetrain in sometime mid-month and possibly a fire-up within the month. Looks like I'll be driving it (sparingly) in primer for about a month or so after that while I save for paint. Want to enjoy it this summer and make it to a big local car show at the end of July so it'll have to do. Can't wait to hear it fire up for the first time, and I'll have some more progress pics in the next couple days. :icon_thumleft:

Good luck on the engine & fire-up... have fun, driving them is what it's all about, enjoy the car over the summer...

Hey guys, I've been MIA here for a little bit, but I definitely haven't been sleeping on the job and the Charger is coming together fast. Thanks to a lot of midnight oil burning I've gotten a lot done in not much time so hopefully I can keep up this pace :icon_thumleft:

Starting from where I left off, I ended up knocking out all rest of the welding I needed to do on the back half of the car in one long night. There's still a bit to do on the outer quarters but that's getting taken care of this weekend. Stocked up on 36 grit flap wheels and went to work with some wire wheels to get the welds ground down and the rest of the undercarriage prepped and painted. It was definitely a long weekend but worth it

Then I pulled the old brake and fuel lines and had a fun night trying to get the new ones routed correctly. Old ones were all hacked up and patched with hoses, so it took a little time to figure out and get a nice fit but ended up fine :toothy5:

Then I spent some time sandblasting and painting the spring hangers and odds and ends for everything under the car. Also painted the brake line brackets in "alluminum" finish paint and satin clear just to have some contrast and detail.

Painted my original shocks just for the meantime until I get the QA1 rear shocks

And finally last night got the new fuel tank and rear end back in the car :icon_cool: It was pretty fun monkeying that stuff in there by myself, think I'll call a couple friends up to come help next time haha left the rear drums untouched since they seem to be in working order and they won't be on the car long before I convert them to disc. Feels really good to be almost done under the car :icon_thumleft:

I'll get a final before/after picture tonight, but I'm really happy with how everything's coming together. Next on the list is a field trip to my buddies house this weekend to do the last of the metal surgery around the rear window shelf. Running on all 8 and moving right along :evil7:

Lookin good! I'm considering putting a Charger gas tank in my Coronet with the gas cap on the quarter.

Thanks Will! Nice to hear my sleep deprivation is paying off haha

Can't say I've ever seen that done but I bet it would go really well with the car, I say go for it! You'll need to graft the upper sheet metal of the Charger quarter where the cap sits onto your car though. Theres a round stamped area the cap kindof tucks into, I can post a picture of it for you if you want. I'm sure you could mcguyver that into working :eusa_think:

If you decide to do it give me a yell "I saved the area of my old quarter where the gas cap goes" you can have it as long as you pay the shipping.

Lots of progress and look'n good, This is my first weekend off in a while "I plan on burning a lot of midnight oil" and hopefully I'll put her in gear for the first time. Good luck

That would be great if you could post a pic. I think it would make the Coronet unique with a Charger fuel cap.

I don't want to hijack MrSpeedfreak's thread so I'll pm you

Yeah I'll post a picture when I get back to the shop tonight. But yeah 747 knows what you need and that would be awesome to score his section.

And thanks 747 you definitely won't be alone in the late night work on the car, I need to drive this thing this summer or I'm going to lose it lol
