Here's the primer & texture paint I used. Dave recommends it in his instructions for doing the dash & like painted parts.
The primer has good solids in it and I cave it about 3 coats. Then used some fine 3m scotchbrite to scuff it up before applying the texture paint.
The texture paint is a little tricky, you need lots of good lighting to ensure even coverage. I applied 2 coats of texture. I'll give it 48 hours to cure before painting with the blue.
The rotisserie sure made painting nice and will help while assembling.

I need a little help here with my door panel emblems.
1 Does anyone have any ideas on the shades of blue, white, and red used on these?
2 I'm wondering how to go about reattaching them to the panels. Looks like to me they were installed by putting a washer over the studs and then smashing the stud like a rivet. I'm thinking of removing the mushroomed part of the stud then gluing them on from the back side.

They were peen on the backside tabs.....I used a 2 part 5 minute epoxy on each tab hole on the backside. Dont go crazy with the epoxy just enough or it will seep out....

So I tape a piece of wide easy release auto tape and tape the emblem tight to the panel. Flip the panel over and apply the epoxy and let cure....

As far as colors go they are glossy red, gloss white and gloss blue....Use model paint and go heavy with it...I didnt restore these they got chromed by Paul's and TA applied the paint....

So I got the right coupler for the boregson steering box finally! Confirmed it fit. Then I made a aluminum adapter to center the 2 pieces for welding. I'm going to wait a bit before doing that to make sure the length is correct. I got a measurement from Showard but the way this has gone I'm going to confirm it first before welding. I'll put all this info together in one thread and maybe they'll make it a sticky.

So I soaked the door emblems in the solvent tank overnight to soften the paint & get it removed. Note the blue side has the location stud on that end. I suppose for mistake proofing it for installation.
I also got the mushroom and washers removed from the retaining studs. Justin was kind enough to let me know he glued his back on.
I bought Testors Cobalt blue, flat white, and dark red, to repaint them. Along with a fine paint brush and thinner for paint. If I thin the paint a bit it flows out better and doesn't leave brush marks.
I'll get them polished up tonight, then wipe them down with lacquer thinner before painting. My thought id if I polish them after paint it may smear into the paint and make it look dirty.

We got 6" of snow here Monday night slowed things down!

On a related note to those of you that have access to a blast cabinet. If you've used it to blast greasy parts, change the media before you blast parts that you plan to paint. You will have a bunch of fisheyes in your paint/primer. Don't ask me how I know......

Been there. That's why you have to degrease everything!

That’s a really good tip and something I hadn’t even considered. I usually degrease before painting but not always. Will now!

Ta da! Got them polished & painted last night. I thinned the paint just a little so it would flow out nice. I used note pads to prop them up to keep them level. I'll wait 24 hours and see how they look. But I don't think they'll need another coat.

Haven't got much done this week, between the 3 snows and working OT 6 days this week it's cut into the X time. Hopefully I can get out of work around noon, blow the snow from last night, take the better half out for dinner & a movie. Then maybe I can sneak off to the garage for Sunday

So I used up a Amazon gift card I got for Christmas. Ordered a lot of the bulbs, LEDs for tail light, front turn & backup. Also a volt gauge for the conversion.

Tim

I asked earlier but do you mind posting a pic of the texture look on your dash frame?

Justin hooked me up with a rear lighting harness, but with my mini tubs it shortened the harness by 6". Something I didn't think about.
So I cut the connector, put on new teminals with longer wire. That way I'll only have one spice per wire. I'll put a crimp splice in, soilder it and heat shrink it.

I test the harness with a battery and all lights work.
