69 Roadrunner feels like it "surges" while driving

So here are the particulars about the car. 1968, 383, 4 speed with 4:10 rear. Electric fuel pump and regulator (7psi), MSD ignition with stock distributor and Edelbrock carb. Car starts an idles nice at 650 rpm.

Issue is when driving in any gear above about about 2000 rpm it feels like its surging or lugging. Rpm seems steady though. Its so frigging irritating I don't want to drive it.

Any ideas?

I know my Charger has a Holley on it, but when the Main Jetting was off a bit and a tad lean, it would surge a bit. Check the plugs and see if its burning a tad lean at cruise speed. Try fattening it up a bit in the carbs main jetting.

Yes it's likely lean. Try richer metering rods.

If you have a gage on your regular I would increase to 9 to 10 psi.

Most likely either timing is a bit high or lean. My Runner used to surge a bit when I had the timing to 37 total so I backed it down to 35 and that took that way. Fuel surge is a bit different and needs to be fattened up if that's the case. Keep us posted!

Very possibly this. Try plugging the vacuum advance for a test drive and see if it stops. If it does you need to find an adjustable vacuum can and limit the amount of vacuum advance that it can pull in.

i had a 69 rr same problem float levels were to low leaning it out.thats my 2 cents
