69 Super Bee restoration

How many days has your vinyl top been laying on the car? I am curious how long it takes to get all the folds out of it. Mine has been folded up in the box for about 6 years now. Just trying to plan ahead.

Only about two days at this point.

Hello, thanks for reading through my thread. I had to replace the upper Cowell yes. I ordered an upper Cowell panel from AMD. I’ll look for pictures. The car actually came from the East Coast. I believe it was in North Carolina originally. I have a lot of the original documentation/insurance cards/registration. A guy bought it from there out of a barn and was going to restore it as a retirement project but changed his mind. I purchased it about six years ago and had it shipped from the East Coast over to California

It was very heavily rusted on each side/corner near the dash. In general the car had a lot of rust. It was so badly rusted I just tried to get chunks of it cut off the car as I moved along. Most of it had to be ground down where it was spot welded.

Somebody posted recently about how to do that. Something about wrapping the socket with cellophane or something like that.

Yep, 6 point socket and a plastic bag. Also when painting the hardware as thin as you can, no heavy prime and paint. A mist of prime and light on the colour coat.

Flank drive sockets work well. They don't stress the corners as much. Also you can lube the surface the bolt is going into or the bottom of the bolt head to keep from twisting the paint on the part you are securing. I would still do what dadsbee said
regarding the plastic to snug up the fit and help protect the painted surface. I also found that a new socket causes less damage than an old worn one.

Finally after soaking my wiper pivot in both degreaser for a few weeks and then a big bowl of vinegar and water it came loose.

Well, I rolled the engine/tranny out tonight to get it ready to put under the car. I had been dragging my feet on this since I knew I had a broken off exhaust stud to fix. Not only that, but I also had a hardened extractor broken off in the same stud. ‍ So tonight I took a deep breath and gathered my surgical tools, a dremel, 3 different hardened bits, a center punch, oil, flashlight, and my air nozzle. 90 minutes later I am happy to say I was able to grind everything out, clean up the threads and put in a new stud. Engine goes under tomorrow.

A bit more done today. Washer bottle and nozzles in, parking brake mechanism, heater box, misc electrical in the engine compartment, accelerator pedal mech. Fun stuff. I know I know the washer motor is supposed to be white. I’m sure there are other things that are not “factory correct” but I’m not to concerned. If it makes a difference I was able to reuse my ribbed washer tubing.

Well, tonight I took a huge leap of faith and applied the quarter panel Super Bee stripes. I read through the posts from Dadsbee And all of the communication about measurements and positioning of the bee. I went basically 4 1/4 inches from the rear of the quarter panel without the cap to the back edge of the stripe. The first one I measured out and marked and was very specific with. the passenger side I put the gel down laid the stripe on moved it around, measured it from the back edge of the quarter panel with a tape measure and it literally laid right on in the perfect position. Yes the bee is cocked up a little bit. As Dadsbee would say, “the bee is cruising” lol. The passenger lower edge of the circle with the B is slightly closer to the marker opening but I’m OK with that. I’m just glad they’re both on and they look amazing.

Thank you Jeff. I appreciate your comments. It’s been a long road. I’m getting close to the end and it feels good. I made another post earlier today about a custom license plate. I think it’s going to read: DIY 69B
