69 Super Bee Starting Issue

Well, it's been a month now and the car has started properly every time since going back to the original starter relay. Hopefully it continues to work as it should.

I just think it's funny that the original 47 year old relay works better than a new one. This is why I prefer original parts!!!

Why are you wondering? lol. Mine is 48yrsold,knock on wood. They were obviously made a little better then.

One last thought, just for grins. What shape are the battery cables in? They can corrode inside, and create resistance on the feed.

The battery cables were replaced with new ones when the car was rebuilt about 3 years ago. They are still in great shape. I recently cleaned the battery terminals and cable connections with a battery brush as well.

Hope your problem is fixed but if it isn't , well back to square 1.
First of all ballast resistor , ignition , amp gauge has nothing to do with the starter turning over. Your red (pos) battery cable should go right to the starter so forget about this other stuff for now . 12v at the starter ,reading off your multimeter, means nothing. It's the amperage that turns the starter @12v. You have done all the usual stuff and that eliminates a lot of things that could be wrong like starter , relay , battery etc . Where is your engine ground? I ran into a situation like yours and discovered by accident that the transmission wasn't grounded to the engine . the guy had painted the engine and tranny separate and not one of the bolts in the tranny made the connection . he had his ground strap from the firewall to a bolt in the intake . something to check .
I have also seen a bad connection between the wire and the loop connector at the starter solenoid. It showed 12v on the meter but couldn't take any amperage .
If you can get the starter to click several times in a row . take a hot wire right from the battery and dab it on the small solenoid stud at the starter. It should start if the starter is ok and your large red cable is good .

Thanks for all the input. I appreciate it. At this point, I'm not going to mess with anything. The car has been working perfectly and is back in use as my daily driver. I know by this point I would have had the issue again so I'm thinking I got it. If it comes back, this will be helpful.
