70 Coronet Wagon Driver

It's been a while since I've posted anything regarding my wagon. I've been splitting time between my Coronet resto and the wagon the last couple of months.

There have only been a few things I've wanted to do to the wagon to dress things up. Mostly was the headliner as it was missing for the most part. I just happened to stumble across another thread here where another member talked about buying a replacement hardboard headliner for his car. It turned me onto looking at REM for my wagon. I reached out to REM and they confirmed they produce a 6 piece replacement headliner for mine, but they didn't sell direct. They did provide contacts for a couple of local retailers and I was able to secure one.

I'm waiting on some insulation material to arrive to start installing it. I'll post some pics of the hardboard and finished look when I get a chance.

Here's the front section of hardboard from REM. It looks pretty close to the original material and even has the cutouts which should save me some time.

I'm just waiting on the roof insulation to arrive before I start installation. I also have to figure out what to use to hide the gaps between sections as the original plastic trim pieces are not reusable.

You might want to try some extruded metal trim as used with countertops, it is easy to work with and would look pretty good. https://eagle-aluminum.com/aluminum-countertop-edging-trim/

It took me a while, but I think I've found a good alternate for the plastic trim pieces that cover the gaps/edges of the hardboard headliner panels. Found some plastic H channel at lowes that should look good once installed.

Started with adding sound deadener to roof metal.

Then started with trying to fit in the rear corner pieces.

I couldn't get it in position and reinstall trim to hold it in place by myself due to the rigidity of the board. I asked my brother to set aside some time to help me. One person needs to push in radius while other snaps metal trim in place. I'll post progress and more pics after my helper stops over.

I've seen people use trim pieces out of 80's mini van headliners for this type of work on 50's cars as well. Looking forward to more updates as it's a cool build!

Rear corner pieces have been installed. Somewhat of a pain due to flexing flat material to match radius in corners and get trim installed, but successful. Couldn't have done it without my brothers help.

I also installed the plastic H channel I got from Lowes and put in the next panel. I think it looks pretty good.

The rectangular opening between the corner pieces is where the dome light plastic fixture was. The one that came with the car was in horrible condition, so I need to find another one to install.

I posted the picture below with a WTB thread for it yesterday on here. Hopefully someone has one that is usable they are willing to part with, otherwise I'll have an open spot in the headliner.

Good thread....gives me incentive to do my 68 Coronet SW in similar condition.
However I already started the 65 Coronet Convertible.
Any interest in buying my 68?
I'll probably list it here for sale.

As much as I'd like to ask for pics and how much, I have to pass. I have a 70 Coronet I have to finish as well. So many projects so little time!!
