Could you give those of us that don't know anything about it some info on the E-dip procedure? Is it a type of primer or paint? Who does it?, and how much does it cost?
The car is submerged in a chemical bath that is heated to strip the vehicle to bare metal, it is then dipped into another tank to neutralize the metal, then you complete the sheet metal repairs in which replacement metal has to be stripped to bare metal. The e coat is a multiple step process performed at a plant that does the coating for one of the major car manufacturers. The bare metal is cleaned, dipped into another chemical (not sure what) cleaned again then phosphatized, cleaned again and then it is e coated. The e coating is a liquid form of epoxy coating where metal is electrically charged like the
powder coating process except is liquid. The coating goes into absolutely every nook and cranny on the vehicle. The cost was just shy of $6,000.00. Talked to the owner about doing another car and he informed me he is shutting his business down at the end of this year after doing it for 37 years.
Wow!! That is an awesome looking rebuild happening there. Congrats on doing such a nice job so far. It brings back a lot of memories with my restoration a few years ago.
Nice work. :headbang:
Have just about caught up with pictures of the progress so far.
We started tearing the car apart in January of 2013, it was the end of September when we took the car to be stripped, at that time the stripper went ahead and did the parts so my builder could start working on doing repairs to them although there was little to do with deck, hood or doors. January 21 14 is when car was picked was from being stripped. once we saw bare metal we put in complete floor pan, wire covers, trunk pan, trunk extensions, inner outer wheel, tail panel, lock support, and two partial quarters along with some rail repairs. Car went back to stripper for derusting on 5/21/14 and stripper transported to the ecoat facility. We got the car back from ecoat on 7/30/14.
This Chevelle was my favorite car. It was destroyed in an accident in October of 2012 coming home from cruising the coast in Mississippi. We were in our Blue Bird Wanderlodge when we had a steer tire blow out doing about 75 mph and made sharp turn left into the median went air born and totaled the bluebird, a 4 month old aluminum trailer, the 70 chevelle and also broke my back. Better half was with me and she got a little banged up. If it were not for the bird we would be dead. I am just giving you a little history because I know some may want to give me a little grief for putting the white stripe on the hood of the RR, I know the performance stripes are suppose to be black but the better half loves the white stripes so we have white stripes similar to the chevelle.

If you're not doing an original resto then you make 'em how you like 'em. (or in this case to keep on side with the Mrs. lol) Keep up the good work RR528, it's looking great.
Sounds like you and the better 1/2 were blessed in that accident! I cant speak for anyone else but me,,,, but to be honest, the white brings the blue out better and "really" looks great!!! Im glad ya listen to the wife!!! That is one pretty ride you have there!!! Enjoy that gal.. and of course the car.
Don't know how I missed this. Your transformation on this bird from where you started is simply amazing. I agree with Ron, that white stripe does bring out the blue better.
Suppose to be b5
Have not seen paint in person yet it is 400 miles away
Was going to see this weekend but my builder says he will get drive train in next week so I decided to wait on that
