Haven’t posted a thread or pics in here before but here goes. Bought my 71 RR back in December of 2016. Had a bone stock 440 in it but came w/ the #’s matching 383, the original A833, build sheet, fender tag, etc. I’d always had automatics before, ( 70 Challenger #’s matching A66, 73 Challenger H code ) and had been wanting something I could row the gears in. I definitely wanted a B body, and since 2nd gen Chargers are outside of my price range I opted for the next best thing, a 71 Road Runner.
Other than swapping out a set of 3.91’s for 3.23’s the car stayed as it was purchased. Decided back in 2018 after the Nats I wanted overdrive, the ability to run deeper gears, and still cruise comfortably at 70, so I bought an 18 spline that came with all the gear vendor goodies. Fortunately/unfortunately it didn’t end there.
Snowball Effect
To date I’ve done the following:
1. Wanted more hp, bought a 440 that should put up around 450 hp
2. Rebuilt the entire front end after stripping and repainting the K member
3. New master cylinder and brake lines.
4. Sanded, primed, and painted the engine bay.
5. Pulled the front old bench seat out and bought two bucket seats at the Carlisle show. Had them reupholstered with Legendary covers.
6. horse traded for a 6 bbl setup and 3.91 SG
I’m missing a lot and have plenty more project pictures, but this post is getting long. Anyway, the painting and rebuilding has been finished since last December and I just put the K member back in over the weekend. When you tally up the money and you’re in the 35k range without an operable vehicle/toy you start to question your sanity, LOL. A few miscellaneous items should be here throughout the week, if all goes as intended the engine will be resting within the car by Sunday. I’ll do my best to keep up with the future work and add to the thread until complete. Still lots to do. This was my first time undertaking a project like this and has been quite the learning experience.
