Took the charger to fill it with gas the other day when i noticed the transmission wouldn't shift right so I checked the fluid in neutral and when hot and it the dipstick was bone dry so i added 1.5 quarts it didnt change the level on the dipstick, but we are unsure how much was in the car before hand. So we went to pull the car outside and as soon as you put it in gear it immediately dies. If you let the car cool you can drive it for a few minutes we drove it for about 10 minutes from start up, and then once hot it stalls out in gear again. Tranny is a 727 auto that was rebuilt etc. the only thing we can come up with is that it is still possibly low on fluid? Any other ideas?

Its not like it sputters and dies like its not getting enough gas its immediate stall as soon as it goes into gear. Should mention its a 69 383 with a holley 600 i suppose

If there is no fluid showing a level on the dipstick you are really low. Even if the the car is cold it will still show on the dipstick. I think you need to add more fluid if I am reading your post right. If you are that low I am shocked that it is even going in gear.

first how hot is hot?....I had similar problem when I put a 350/700r4 in my mini van....after a few romps I noticed trans fluid was low.not gone but low..and it heated up quick wouldn't stay running and you had to flutter the gas to keep it running in gear...I moved my trans cooler to a new location away from radiator and added JB's trans be cool.....no problems since and man does it hook up.....you could have a vacuum problem at hot idle causing it to die suddenly. keep us informed. any luck?

What rpm does it idle at in neutral cold and once it's hot?
