72 satellite clone runner

I have a 72 Road runner and i'm planning on making that same hood.

Just gettin it started.

That looks to be a cool build, Hope you'll start a thread on your bird, I bet im not alone wanting to see the progress with the hood refit and how you go about it! Good luck regardless.

buddy of mine did that to his Dakota hood. looks sharp
 
Took the windshield trim off tonight. Previous owner replaced the windshield in 2006.

My question is; Is there a way to take the windshield out without wrecking it?
 
Well, it's time for the work to begin. My son is done his exams and is free until Jan. I think we'll start with pulling out the interior to see how the body looks under the carpet etc.
 
Cool. That mean you will sit back and watch your son?
 
Going to pick up another motor later. A 318 for 60 bucks is a good deal. We'll have lots of fun working on it.

It's home, and it's a nice motor. Turns over beautifly with no binding or grinding. Biggest problem is that the previous owner took the heads off to help with loading in my truck and didn't mark the pushrods. Is that a big issue.
 
It's been so slow!!!
My son hasn't wanted to do anything, he want's to build up some cash before he starts. Plus, he likes walking into the garage & seeing the car. I think that that's the problem, he's afraid to see it torn apart. My thought was to at least start tearing it apart inside and working on cleaning up good bits. Since the last post, I've picked up a Weiand 8007 manifold for the spare engine, and a buddy has given me a rotisserie that he doesn't need anymore. I really want to get working on this. Hopefully soon, now that the weather is warming up.

yeah it can be scarey to tear the car apart. real life has a way of intruding, and before you know it the car has been apart for years and the flame has died. but that's a chance we have to take, but it's not a bad idea to build the cash up.
 
Yeah, I understand where he is coming from. It's a big step, especially when you're new at it.

No worries though, we'll get there slowly but surely. Hell, we got the best group of folks here to help!

This is my biggest regret, I'd never do it again, I had a 72 roadrunner that I tore apart when I was around 20 and sat for years because of no money, school, partying, girls ect ect ended up selling it for a running 73 charger(which I had alot more fun in even though it was in worse shape). One piece of advice I would give to him is fix only what you can during the winter months so you can still drive it from spring-fall. When you have your life in order then you can think about a full resto. Life is too short. Car looks good, have fun driving it.
 
Well, it is a runner. Only thing is that it can't get the safety certificate and licenced for the road because of the rotten driver's side front frame rail. That will need replacing. And the back up lights dont work, but that's an easy fix. Thing too is insurance. It's difficult to get a car this old insured through normal channels, and he's too young to get insured under classic car insurance, he's 4-5 yrs away from that. So, work will be done but as was said, he wants to have the money there to get the jobs done when needed. eg the frame. He want's to be able to buy the parts and then have them installed properly once they're in. I think that's going to have to get done before we even think about putting it on the rotisserie.

I don't have any worries about him losing interest, he's stubborn & determined. This is his car and as his first, it will be with him for a long time. Hell, I watched him changing the 16 sparkplugs in my Durango a few years ago. There was no way in hell he was going to be defeated.
