Ok while driving around today I noticed some smoke and pulled in the drive to trans fluid pouring out. Crawled underneath and there was a plug or something there that is now missing. What is it?

Did that shaft fall out or in ?

Now we know why when the o ring fails or gets brittle they leak , or fall out for that matter

One of the leaks that every one mistakes for the pan gasket

Your tail shaft housing tab is broke off also , it keeps the shaft from sliding out

Yup, lock tab is gone... Low/Reverse band anchor pin has left the building.....Guess what, you also no longer have reverse...

Well damn. I believe the pin has been left on the road somewhere. I'll go by the trans shop tomorrow.

I have intentionally cut the retaining tab off the casting for maintenance (long story) but fabbed a retainer from steel to replace it. Easy job. You will have to drop the pan and perhaps valve body, loosen the rear band adjustment to reinstall the pin, with a new o-ring, and read adjust the band.

And you can run two o-rings in the ones that have two grooves like Bee1971's pic. A little assembly lube between them and it will be a long time between leaks.
