Ok guys i know the 400 smog motors aren't very popular for performance. i have a complete freshened up bottom end. plan to use in my 64 savoy, only heads i have are 906 heads, i'm wanting to bump the compression up a bit, i know the 73 400 was 8.2:1 is it even possible to get it up close to 10:1 by shaving the heads? the cam i would like to use clearly states 10:1-11:1 comp when i was putting the motor back together i couldn't find any off shelf 400 high compression pistons with out being for a stroker setup. what would you guys recommend, vs how much can i shave off these heads safely with out destroying them.

Tight squeeze

Summit or jegs has Keith Blacks for you 400 at higher ratios

I bolted on a set of 516 off a 66 383 and opened it up with the stock 400 valves and it was better than stock but not sure what comp ration is

I will be selling some mopar performance .030" over 400 pistons pretty soon. Part number is P4529427, they are no longer offered by chrysler. Forged flat tops with 1.825" CH, supposed to be 9:1 or 9.5:1 in stock 400 with open chamber OEM heads. You could try combining these with a shaved head or closed chamber iron/Al heads. PM if you are interested.

I'd love to know for sure.

I have the same bag of parts.
