Just saw this episode and supposedly he bought this 73 Challenger with a big block 4 speed and nitrous for $4500. I don't know about you guys but i NEVER see a car like this for $4500 these days. Do any of you?

No matter what he will find a way to lose money on it!

I don't like this dude.

Well, you know one thing - that car didn't come from the factory that way....

He just seems full of himself and just another cocky asshole with a few bucks...

Im guessing thats staged all the way. I sure had no use for that show.

Richard is well, a dick. However he does do stuff for the Military Vets. But is that for his own gain? I can appreciate that aspect but the rest of him is just a cheese factory.

Haven't watched him in a few years, but I always laughed at the end of the shows when he was at an auction.. Had a cool on in his hand acting like it was not his first and sure didn't seem staged to me....LOL

We have a Gas Monkey built car in our shop as we speak. It's the gray 62 Galaxie that they built. The car is a 10 footer at best. Guy that bought it at auction brought it to us to sort out a few little things before he can drive it. They look great on TV but once you get up close to it you can see that the body work and fit and finish quality just isn't there. When you're building 6 week slam jobs I guess that's going to happen. I think people see them in person at these auctions and bidding doesn't go very high IMO.

I thought it was as done after Aaron left.

They kept it going for a few seasons, I believe he announced earlier this year or last year that they had stopped filming. His restaurants were losing money because the food sucked or it was a toxic environment for the women I can't remember. His ratings probably went down after Aaron left too. The guy has made so much money off TV maybe he decided enough is enough. A quick google search says he is worth 18 million.

I don't like that they throw a ridiculous time limit on the tv builds. Supposedly "the customer has to have it."
When was the last time a machine shop or body shop jumped all over something you had to have.
Can you imagine trying to do quality work in that environment?

No...

If you read Richards book the timelines for the build were pushed by the Discovery channel. They wanted the quick turn around for TV. And Richard started GMG with the goal to get onto TV to get rich after watching American Chopper. He also says that in his book.

If I heard right in the video, he bought it for $4000 not knowing if it ran. Sold it for $13,500 and I assume it was running/driving. $9500 profit unless he replaced parts.
