As of January 1st 2013 the production of 75 watt incandescent light bulbs has been banned. As soon as stores deplete their inventory of 75 watt incandescents on the shelf, bulbs will no longer be able to be purchased.

Thought I would give you guys heads up. If you want a cheap 75 watt bulb you better buy it now. Everytime I go to the store I pick up a couple.

I would have put this in the political section but instead of debating how stupid this ban is I think everyone should be aware so they can stock up.

LOL... who uses them anymore? Honestly they dont last as long as the CF's and by the time you replace them they end up costing more. I go through no less than 1 every two weeks on my front porch light compared to 1 maybe every 2 years of the CF.

Sonny use's them. I like to pay .25cents(or less) for a light bulb....also, I like the natural tone of the light. YOU ALSO CAN USE A DIMMER SWITCH. I just don't like the "government" telling me what bulbs I can use. you see I pay taxes.

The Idiots in Washington need to focus on doing their job! The Deficit! Stop wasting time on Light Bulbs and bridges to nowhere. I think I will stock up on these bulbs. They don't tell you the stupid CF bulbs have mercury in them. Why don't the idot's focus on that? Plus the stupid Florescent bulbs have ugly light and poor output! Their is only one Light bulb factory left in the US. Again Washington screws with another piece of the Economy. I know I need anger management.

Correct George Bush passed federal legislation requieing higher efficancy lighting products, In order to save the consumer on the cost of energy. Yet the statment that incandesant bulbs are or will be out lawed is pure horse hocky. Most new incandescent will now be of a Halogen incandescant type. You know, just like most of use on our calssic cars.
Here are some facts.

The media has promoted a narrative that the Federal government is “banning the bulb,” and forcing people to use compact fluorescent lamps. This is not true. The incandescent light source has not been banned, only asked to become more efficient.

Consider that the average incandescent lamp produces far more heat than usable light. In fact, only about 10 percent of an incandescent’s electrical input is useful light output. The rest is dissipated as heat.

As today’s 40-100W incandescent lamps are removed from the market, consumers will have several choices of light sources to fill their sockets.

One offering is the energy-saving halogen incandescent screw-in lamp, which offers about 30% energy savings while providing the same high color rendering, easy dimming, and a similar shape as today’s incandescent bulbs. Examples include the Philips Halogená Energy Saver, Sylvania Halogen SuperSaver, GE and Bulbrite’s A19 lamps, and TCP’s Sustainabulb.

I'll pick some up too. The coal fire sourced power at the wall switch will light them up. I'm leaving the gas cap off of the gd R/T tonight for good measure.

Rough is one of the many many incandescant bulbs on the NOT affected list

I do plus the CFs suck in the cold. You ever had one of those CFs burn out?The glass breaks sometimes and lets of a nasty cloud that cant be to good for ya.No thanks i will keep using my stockpile of my old regular bulbs.

I changed all of ours over to CF type bulbs a few years ago. We have some through the house that refuse to fire off unless we reach up and thump them and sometimes even then they don't light. Plus, they do not put out their max amount of light until after a few minutes of being on. Although I will say that for the rest of them, they have lasted longer than the incandescents. I cannot say for sure if they've made an impact on the power bill, but I really don't like them.

ok, the less pump gas we use the higher the PRICE!....so if we use less electric "they" will penalize us with higher rates?...don't for get all the surcharges we pay every 28 to 30 days per billing cycle. Rusty, I thumped one once and it exploded in many little pieces, not to mention the gas.

its happening up here also. just read an article today about how to clean up a broken CF bulb. its actually scary.

Sonny, you are dead on right with the rates. Simply put all the same expenses will have to be paid with less sales, that equates to increase rates.

I hate the CFLs too. I hate the light, the slow to get going, and they are dimmer in the cold that everyone in Washington. I do get the reduction in energy use. What I don't get, being a heating guy is that they also outlawed the best thermostat ever. It was the Honeywell T87 because of the mercury, yet they have no problem with forcing mecury down our collective throats with CFLs. And to top it all off, we now have throw away thermstats with batteries you have to "dispose of properly", like everyone does that too. Gone are the 30 year old thermostats, I'm now changing out peoples thermostats far more regularly than I like anyway.

One more thing how many of you guys have witnessed a CFL burn up yet? I've had three, one exploded and two filled the room with smoke and when I went to unscrew them, the plastic was so hot it twisted.

I suspect the Canadians are behind this. It's all designed to increase the need for heating oil and they're our biggest supplier.

Lest someone think I'm serious... I'm not. :icon_winkle:
