Hello,

I have a Carter 4326s AFB carb on my 67 GTX. I had it apart the other day, and was giving it a thorough checkup. I poured some fuel into the accelerator pump area, but only enough so it didn't spill over the fill line. I noticed that a small amount of fuel would leak back into the float bowls, through the check valve there.

Then I placed the accelerator pump in, and pushed down on it. Fuel did shoot down the venturis, but fuel also squirted back into the float bowl as well.

Now does this mean I have an faulty check valve? Shouldn't it only allow fuel into the accelerator pump area, and not out of it?

Thank you

Somebody, not past the times like me, will probably chime in. Been too many years for me! But, yes, think your right about the bad check ball. New ones used to come in the overhaul kits, can only guess these days.

I agree - doesn't sound correct to me.

That's what I'm thinking, but it surprises me. That piece was replaced recently when I rebuilt the carb.

You might be looking at a piece of trash in there, keeping the check ball from seating, or the hole is damaged. Only things I can think of.

Check the seat where the check ball sits, make sure its clean and the seat isn't pitted, also, inspect the check ball with a magnifying glass, it may be pitted and therefore not providing a good seal.

On a thermoquad,(not sure if you can do this on AVS) if there is leaking around the check valve, and new needle doesn't fix the issue the service manual recommends using a small rod and press it on the check needle while in place and tap lightly with a hammer to form a new seat, then replace with new needle.
