American Car Prospector

I love wheeler dealers!!! i dont like Mike; he's a fat, annoying little pillock. but Ed China is the ****!!

ive never seen American car prospector, tho i have seen a few commercials for it. ill give it a try and see.

IMHFO strictly entertainment, like most of the car show, not much accuracy usually... at-least he isn't an arrogant a--hole like the Mark on GYC, I like the GYC content better, but need to mute that Mark guy...

That goof with the cowboy hat & boots is just irritating to me. I watched 2 or 3 episodes & every scenario (where he buys a car) in each episode is exactly the same and each new episode is the same as the previous one. To me, it's almost as bad as Graveyard Carz.

Have a couple of beers first then post up your opinion. I watch these shows when I'm on here kicking back after a stressful day at work to unwind. I should be out in the garage though!

Wheeler Dealer is just OK too, the Brit humor is just annoying thou, IMHFO it wouldn't be so bad, if they or Ed actually cleaned &/or repainted parts, before reinstalling them... A pet peeve of mine.... just more car flippers, much like Classic Car Rescue, Car Chasers is another lame flipper show... I actually enjoy watching Counting Cars & the Gas Monkey guys, Overhaulin', but I also look at it as solely entertainment, not a guideline on building cars, most all these car shows are pretty lame in that realm...

I guess we don't get that one on our side of the border but we do get:

The Car Chasers - About as lame as it gets finds cars and sends them to auction... some decent cars but the characters on the show are just plain annoying

Fantom Works - The owner of the shop is just obnoxious

Gas Monkey - Mildly Amusing.... I like everyone but the owner Richard who I find a bit Pompous and clueless

Restoration Garage - Shot locally for us in Canada at The Guild of Automotive Restorers... Nice cars but too much Made for TV drama... and hard to believe you let a toothless fool manage a high end shop (apparently he's been fired)

And Count's Customs.... I don't like what he does with some of the cars but easily the most amusing
...

never heard or seen this show had to google it ,and I see I didn't miss anything but here this is for you to watch

I've watched ACP a couple of times and found it kinda boring so it's not high on my list of fav shows.

I do enjoy watching Wheeler Dealers because they actually take the time to show you what Ed is doing, which is much better than the shows where they tell you what they're doing but not show you how.

Fast & Loud is still my favorite car show. I like that Richard loses his *** as often as he makes money.

good one snakeys

Here is the one about the 442. Start it about about 2:30. Such a dork . The guy he's buying it off of is selling it because she has cancer and has supported his car hobby their whole marriage. After the ACP buys the car he's all happy and tells the guy "now the wife will get off your back" or something like that.

"Hello Gorgeous" when he 1st sees the cars, it's an OK show, better than the Kardasians or Amer. Idol or some other lame show...LOL... Yes he pays too much for a bunch of the stuff, he's just a flipper/broker, finder/prospector, not the end buyer, if a buyer gives him a budget, that he can stay within, then he buys & makes his finders fee... $8k for the 1966 Charger was way too much, for it's condition, the TV listing even said 1968 Charger, bad editing & research, it's highly doubtful $25k for that car, even after restored... sorry 66 Charger guys, not knocking on your cars, I like 1966-67 Chargers, they just don't usually bring very good money...

Seems like he overpays for many cars...

I can't deal with the show. I saw another ACP show last night where he bought a non-original, unrestored Corvette for $48,000. They then tout how the "American prospector strikes again" by stating that a restored car is worth $60,000. That's true, but just putting a %$#! paint job on that Corvette would bring him up to 60 large, and it is only worth that if the rest of it is fully restored AND it is original, which that one was not.

So basically you have a guy driving around and over paying for cars and having the show brag about what a talent the American Prospector is. Total crap...

Pretty much summed it up but I still think the guys is funny .. looking and so socially awkward I just get a kick out of it. I understand entertainment value may vary for some customers ;)

Tall, I'm not saying people shouldn't watch the show. If you get a kick out of it, that's great - that's what TV is for. All I'm saying (and I think most agree) is that the show, like many others, isn't "reality", but a bunch of BS...

..Now if that BS is entertaining, that's great. I just hope nobody is fool enough to believe it (of course, those that do believe it might be the Prospector's customers!).

Sorry it's BS for certain brother. I wasn't trying to influence you and i don't advocate misleading easily impressionable young gear heads on realistic prices, potential windfalls, or lack thereof awaiting them for buying and restoring rusty, windshieldless, 318 come 361 1966 Chargers from crusty old wanna be bikers

Hate his line when he finally gets the car...

That's another ace in the hole for the American Car Prospector". :icon_puke_l:

Maybe I should drop the network a line and have him come to my garage.... He can buy my car for a low $20 grand... Ha, Ha!

Would love to see this show your all talking about but we don't get it here in the uk. We get most of your shows which are pretty cool. I guess the UK's equivalent of what your all talking about would be a show called "wheeler dealers" where the fat guy mike who knows F'all about cars buys a pile of shite and then hands it over to a poor guy called ed to fix them up. I think you guys get that show over there so you'll know just how much of a gimp mike really is. Is he on par with the guy in that show your chatting about?

I'm gonna have to totally disagree with this statement.

IMO Wheeler dealers is the most realistic of all the shows, and the most educational as they show, for the most parts, the entire repair process, and explain things fairly completely.

I saw ACP for the first time last week, and the "Charger episode" a few days ago.

I think I have a new "least favorite" of these shows.

Very boring, with the same formula and questionable outcome, each and every time.

I found the Charger portion particularly unsettling, due to the aforementioned issues, IE the most expensive part (dash)was missing, the second most expensive part (headlights) was untested, the third most expensive (tail light lens) was broken, the interior was trashed, and the easily verifiable "small block car" status, unquestioned, while the "truck motor" 361 could very well be the original engine...not to mention the comments about the "non matching numbers" motor severely hurting the value..... does that guy know ANYTHING about cars?

I agree that was a $2500 car, and I can buy my choice of two, currently on CL in FL, running and driving...for literally half of the show price.

I really don't think so. That is why I find it so funny however I easily see why people really don't like it. The one that irritated me though was the one where he bought the 442. He's a total insincere and un-knowledgeable goof and that comment about the guys wife proved it.

I watched an episode of Gas Monkey last night where they put a 454 crate engine with a huge through the hood blower in a Chevy station wagon they bought for $6500. My immediate thought was "who is going to buy that?" Then he supposedly sold it for 43K. The prices he gets for some of these cars is kind of bizarre.

hell $40k grand

Saw that episode of Gas Monkey with the wagon and agree that price was ludicrous!

I think Eric from "the Car Chasers" has the ACP guy beat for "socially awkward"

Is Eric the nerdy dude, always in the lab-coat ?? I can't remember names, except the dad Roundman, the shark used car dealer, that's easy because he's fat/round...

Yeah the Ugly Kids Clothing company, those 2 dweebs were total suckers for that price anyway, but I liked the wagon after it was done, but I'm a little twisted too, I like wagons in general, especially those with Roots Blowers sticking out the hood...LOL...

Yup Eric is the Nerdy dude in the lab coat with the black rubber gloves. They'll make a big deal about him having to do "diagnostics" on a car then they'll show him changing a float in a carb and everything is hunky dorey lol

as shown above in my video where he is talking about speaking to cars
