Any Guitar collectors here?

The first time I saw a real SG up close, I was amazed at how thin it was.

The LP specials are real thin too, like an Epi LP.

@Bladecutter

let's see a closeup of your LP copy.

is that some kind of burgundy/black cherry color?

I like it.

I agree a strat design is more comfortable for me to play, both shape-wise and balance-wise,
but my SG is pretty comfortable too.

That Matsumoku I have is almost a Les Paul copy. It's very heavy and plays as good as any "real" LP I've played.
("Uncle Mat" made models for a lot of different brands including Vox, Aria Pro, Electra/Westone, and what I have, which is a Westbury)

RE: Melody Maker, I believe that was Gibson's "no frills" line.

A couple of years ago I almost bought a Melody Maker flying V.
No edge binding, bolt on neck, and only a bridge pickup.
If only it hadn't been brown...
YY1, here's some close ups of the Avion. Also I installed a roller bridge. Yup, the axe is heavy but still not as heavy as a Gibson LP. Still tires the neck after a while when playing standing, sitting down the upper back edge of body digs into my right rib cage. That's why the backside bevel of a Strat is so nice, makes a comfortable lap guitar.

That is purdy, right there.

Reminds me of this-

I pass an SRT 392 in this color going the other way almost everyday on my way home from work.

I went through a dozen pics on the net and it's apparently a HARD color to do justice to in photographs.

Thanks! I made a good deal on it new...the finger board was slightly delaminating at head. The list on it was 800 & change. A week before seeing it I had bought an Epiphone flat top LP junior, bolt on neck, for 190.00. They wanted 200.00 for the 'blemed' Avion. They took the Epiphone + 10.00 in trade, I was only out 10.00 really. With the repair of neck/finger board, the new pickups, new hardware & rewiring, I'm in it 500.00. One of the better deals I've ever made imo.
Doesn't matter much cuz it's a keeper to will away when I die. Same with the Squier ll Strat though I have much more invested in it than it could ever be worth monetarily.

Did this over the weekend.

My wife actually made me do it.

We've been looking for something to put on that wall for years.

My first suggestion was mirror. The second was jokingly to hang guitars.

I never brought it up again, but the wife has brought it back up several times.

Done!

I might put three more up.

It IS art, and a study in industrial and ergonomic design.

I had no idea and would've never thought that this topic would make it to 5 pages. Thanks to all that have contributed, carry on.

.....and here we go again.....

G&L ASAT 2016.jpg

Picked this up super cheap because it had been strung lefty and had that hole drilled for the lefty strap knob.
2016 MII G&L ASAT.
Plays real good.
Was supposed to be a gift for my super cool boss.....
We'll have to see about that.

Nice purchase.

I have an American Strat and Tele and a G&L Legacy that I really like. I like the flatter fret board and I think the pickups have more presence, sustain and “chime” than my Strat. There”s just more midrange punch to it.

I've wanted a G&L since Leo Fender started making them in the mid 1980's.

You could argue that this is a real modern telecaster.
It is "from the hand of the master" so to speak.

Agree the neck is a softer radius than a standard Fender neck. Ever so slightly wider as well.
Apparently there were 3 options for that.
Less "twang" than any Fender tele I've played, but there is some there.
It's been a while since I've played anything with a single coil.
This one has a nice, creamy, cutting wail.
The double at the bridge does just fine with my crunchier side.
The PO set it back up as a righty and did a great job. Low action, no buzz, intonation correct.

I’d like to have an original (76-80) Music Man bass but they are getting VERY pricey.

I have some Japanese Vintage (JV) Strats and Teles ...
Unfortunately with age my ears are going
I love acoustic and electric guitars, amps and vintage cars
Close friend has an acoustic Music Man bass - he'll be buried with it
