Anyone else excited about DIESEL 1500's?!?!

I would love to have one! I have a hemi Ram 1500 Bighorn now, and will likely buy a new truck in 2 years. I was leaning towards an Ecoboost until I heard about the new Ram Ecodiesel. Let's see how they hold up!

I hope it proves to be a good engine and have good sales in the Ram line. What I think would be great is to bring back a new Dakota mid-size pickup with this engine. I would fill a market void that exists now because both Ford Rangers and Chevy Colorados are no longer being built.
It would be nice to be able to buy a small/ mid-size truck that can actually haul a load and pull a fair sized trailer. I'd certainly consider buying one.

yea, I agree with you guys. 420 lb/ft torque and 30 mpg highway. I've been all about diesels for a while now when it comes to trucks. and those numbers look fantastic to me.

I'll be looking at them for sure. My 2000 Ram has served me well, but I like the look of those numbers as well.

For sure! Love them numbers too! But, Ecoboost out-Torques and out-HP the EcoDiesel RAM. But, loyalty...priceless!

I hope it does well, too. I'm likely driving my last diesel as I plan to keep my 24 valve going as long as I'm going. I just put $2300. into the body to help it keep up with the barely broken-in engine.

Oh man. I want a diesel so bad. May have to trade up for one of these. Thanks for posting!

Me too!

Again, I test drove the Ram 3500 Longhorn BUT....do I need ALL that pulling power?

I have yet to be able to answer that question.
Sure, it would be nice to have the Cummins Turbo Diesel but perhaps this new V-6 diesel is a good alternative...?

There is just something about that BIG Cummins "Straight 6" that rings my bell.

Yeah maybe, but it's still a FORD...LOL...

I don't think excited is what I am, but maybe interested yes, but I won't be buy anything, anytime soon either.... the V-6 Eco Diesel won't have anywhere near the torque of the old Straight 6, it's completely different animal, not a real work horse, built for CAFE mileage standards, light medium duty use, in a Ram 1500, but it still doesn't have the suspension for heavy loads, like a 2500-3500 or Commercial rig... But also, I would like to get something to replace my 2002 F350 4x4 7.3ltr Powerstroke Dually extra cab, I hate the damn thing {my Pops loves it}, it serves it's purpose, hauling a trailer, but my old 95 & 98 Ram 2500 4x4 5.9lt 12-valve Cummins Turbo, they are & were better "hands down" than the Ford, I have anyway... I'm sure "Opinions will vary vastly"... I love the size of my 99 SLT 4x4 Clubcab Dakota 5.2ltr for a daily driver, too bad they don't do something along those lines, the full-size truck won't fit in my garage either...

I got excited thinking it was going to be a cummins... :( If they made a cummins 2wd 1500 I would use my college money for a down payment! Crank up the boost, nice lsd, time to get freaky.

I like the idea a lot! How much more will the V6 diesel cost than the Hemi? How many MPG?

Here lies the heart of the matter. If it costs, say, 5k more for the diesel no way. When diesel is around the same price as gas (as it is here), it doesn't make sense unless the mileage truly is great. The extra 5K buys a hell of a lot of gas. As for the MPG, I'll never trust the factory rating; biggest bunch of BS there is (on trucks at least).

I may be missing it....but where did you see the 30 MPG? I had actually heard rumors of higher mileage than that. I'm about 2 years from cashing in my 2005 hemi ram and have been waiting to see what this diesel has to offer. I was going to put the hemi ram on part time service and go for an economy car for daily use, but when they started throwing out the mileage numbers on the diesel, I figured I would just get the truck and save on the insurance of an additional vehicle.

Looks like the option is less than 3000 dollars. And the fuel mileage could certainly be double what the 5.7 does. Factory rating on my Subaru was dead on, so I haven't had too bad a time with those ratings. GM lied about the Volt though, so it does happen.

The next question is, can you get it in a stick? I'd say 99% probability no, but damn that would be awesome. A diesel 1500 with a six speed, I would pay sticker for the first time in my life.

I totally agree, with a manual transfer case too. I don't think you'll be able to get one though. 8 Speed Torqueflite is probably the only thing you can get. They just don't build trucks like they used to.

As of now, no stick. Standard with the 8-speed auto. This engine is produced by Motori, which has been making good small diesel engines for decades. They have a good track record. But given anticipated demand, they may be built in the U.S. soon!
