I just want to see what your results are and if you have leads on pistons, and what crank and rods you are using. Still contemplating a stroker build either 396 or 402. I know Gary P as he did my rocker assy and cam, just in case you were going to refer me to him. "-) I want to here about your build!

Me three.
I am wanting to build my 318 Poly in my wagon into a stroker and would love to see and hear what others have done to pull some wicked power out of their Poly.

The only place I know of making pistons for the 318 is Egge machine. But that doesn't mean anyone else won't if you have the cash for what is now a custom part.

Mine is being built now but going slow. Will be a 394 stroker. 50 over with 4" forged crank. My heads are being setup on the CNC now. Getting some real good flow and will release the flow #s when finished. Will have a CNC program so others can get their heads done. Pistons will be custom made. The heads will get put on the block and we will pour a mold that goes to piston place for the design. Also going to use T&D roller rocker arms.

Thanks for chiming in, I'm not real smart when it comes to the CNC stuff, does that mean a guy could take the CNC program somewhere else to have the heads done, or just that the place doing yours will have it on file to do other heads sent to them? I would love to have heads ported as well. I see Campbell Enterprises does Poly stroker pistons at About $870 do you have a lead on your pistons and cost? Are the roller rockers designed for Poly or do you have to re-work them? Thanks Much!!

I will own the CNC files but will stay with my head guy so heads will go thru me to him. My builder will be pouring a mold for the pistons, then mold goes to piston manuf. and put into their computer system so the design can be done. Again once the design is done it will be easy to customize and make for others. The roller rockers are designed for the poly. You need to cut the rocker arm stands to mount the T&D. There is also rocker arms unlimited (rockerarms.com) who makes rockers that do not need the stands cut.

Mine has been built for a few years, waiting on the car (63 Fury ragtop). Gary was my guru. Bored .060 over, 4" Eagle stroker crank, Eagle rods, Ross custom pistons, Racer Brown cam (ST-14 I think), ported heads with larger valves, valve covers from Gary, Edelbrock intake with 3 demon 98 carbs, March brackets up front and March P/S pump, TTI headers, Milodon pan

Ok, Thanks. Please let us know when the porting and pistons are available. Very exciting stuff. Rockers I will need to look in to. Any part numbers for T&D rockers?

I have a 65 rag top we can put it in while your waiting for yours!! "-) Yes, Gary is one great guy. He called me last Sunday to respond to an e-mail I sent him. Very generous with his time!!

I believe the T&D part # is 8390 but not listed in there online catalog, you would need to call.

Now that's What I'm talk'in about!! Thanks

all I know is the poly uses the same crank and rods as the 273/318/340 I know this becues wen I melted a piston that's what I used.im shour the bore is different on the 273 and 340.but the 318 and poly is the same..............Artie

this motor must have 30 over 340 pistons in it.........that's the same crank we used in our dirt motors to get 358ci......Artie

You can look in the Mopar Muscle arcives,(I think) Dick Landy did a poly engine build that pulled over 425 horses. It may have been 10 years ago or so. Interesting article that I still remember it.

Gary p did one about that long ago. Never remember Dick doing one.

I talked to Landy's son a few years back trying to get information on the Polys they built. At the time, they used the Weiand 7503 manifold, shaved the top off and welded a plate to mount the 144 and 174 blowers. The kits, like everything Poly these days, were expensive, but the kits were all inclusive to bolt onto the Poly. I believe the figures were about 350 and 450 horsepower for small and large blower, bolted directly to a stock engine. But they'd set you back (at that time) about five grand.

I've built my Poly, and 20/20 hindsight I wish I had just built a stroker 360 and used the money I would have saved on something else. The Poly, for the kind of money you spend to make power, is ridiculously expensive. I know, because I spent over $5k on mine and ended up with less than 300 hp. The wrong cam was used, the engine just didn't put out what I was told would be about 375 horses. The engine is great for mileage, and I love being different, but now that I race the car, it's not cutting it. To make the power I want would require a complete rebuild... another $5-6k, and I can build a 408 stroker LA for far less and get 450 hp.

Bottom line, if you are concerned what parts will cost, give it some thought and add it all up prior to spending that first buck. Intake manifolds are ebay only (for now), one set of aftermarket valve covers (Aus), one set of headers (TTI - which are great), and very few shops that actually know much about the Poly. Those who have shared theirs, they know what I'm talking about - you basically have to have an almost unlimited budget.
