Anyone still use titanium valve spring retainers?

Had bought a set of springs,in mock up there was too much interference even with clearancing the rockers.SO,,,bought retainers that were -50 and that did the trick, but on start up you could just hear too much spring pressure.Had to buy another set of spring to get the proper pressure.........

Can hear how loud the rockers are!

Need to check EVERYTHING! I learned that early on in my machinist career. Your best friend can machine something for ya but that doesn't guarantee squat. Everyone makes mistakes and misreading a mic isn't hard to do....and even misreading a digital mic happens.
Gotta checkand check again. When your sure,,,,,,,,,,CHECK again!!

how many people measure stem o.d. and taper?
I do! Degree ALL cams too no matter if the engine is bone stock....deck heights, combustion chamber volumn....basically, I blue print the engine....even the ring fits and lands get checked. Clean and inspect all the parts including water jackets in heads and intake if the intake is wet. A good gun cleaning kit is very helpful. One time I found a crank with an oil passage way that was clogged. Even the oil pump gets checked. Years ago a guy brought over a fresh 340 that had no oil pressure and found a broken oil pump drive. The culprit was the oil pump only had .001" rotor face clearance and it had a tiny piece of crap in it that locked it up tight. Saw it as soon as I pulled the end cap off....

Anyone that knows what there are doing. The valve guide determines the actual valve stem size you need or the guides get replaced to fit a new, different actual stem size.

I learned it doesn't matter if you measure, if the sizing is correct. But if you don't measure and sizing is incorrect, well then you got to ask yourself, am I lucky? There is far more than just bearing clearance and ring gap. That's what separates a builder from an assembler.
