Time for a new ignition set up and was curious if anyone has an opinion on there distributors and ignition boxes. Thanks Stew

my mate has, he is happy with there box and custom phased distributor

I've got thier full set up in my car and like it a lot. I had no issues installing it, just bypassed the ballast and threw everything in. I already had electronic ignition wiring so I didn't have to do any of that.

Thanks for the replies guys. I kinda thought more people might be using their setup but guess not.

Ive got it! It doesnt work but I sure do have it! It would probably be a pretty nice set up if my car ran! lol

8-D I was wondering if you'd see that.
Still a no-go? That truly sucks, but stay with it. Eventually you'll find the issue and wonder how it was you (and every-damn-body else) missed it.

I had some issues when I converted to HEI: getting rid of the ballast resistor, ECU, and intake manifold mounted coil were all GOOD things, imo. But presented a few challenges.

You'll get there. The systematic, albeit tedious approach to troublshooting that those cats were walking you through on yer other thread is the best way to do it...the ONLY way, really, if you want results.

Beg pardon. Ah did not mean to hijack the thread...please proceed, suh.

(That's my Val Kilmer doing Doc Holliday impression. Pretty good, huh)

Got a custom curved and phased mechanical distributor from 4 seconds flat on my 512. Thing is spot on and Don was a pleasure to work with. Good luck

No. I use the Rev-n-nator ECU :)

Same here. Good stuff.

How do you like it? Right now I use the FBO kit of recurved distributor, ECU, and coil. I'm thinking of switching to a Rev n ator but I read somewhere that sometimes you have to not only reset the timing but recurve the distributor as well with it.

A small adjustment to the timing is normally enough. A MoPar performance distributor should be fine as is...I just swapped to an Accel Dist with advance curve adjustment to compensate for fuel quality and engine specs/driving conditions etc. Works awesome, and it does show a big difference on the Dyno. I swapped out my Rev-n-nator unit to test on 2 other vehicles, and they started and ran instantly...only small timing adjustments again....both vehicle owners highly impressed. Also the built-in Rev-Limiter and tachometer functions are very useful. I was able to ditch my Soft-Touch module, and a load of excess wiring when I converted over.

67satty, why you switching?

I'm thinking about switching to it because from what I've read on the pages and pages of threads on the Rev n ator, it sounds like it is a big improvement over the MP and FBO ECUs because of the way they designed it. From what I surmised it uses newer technology than the MP or older FBO ECUs (like I have) and as a result doesn't retard timing above 3,500 rpm like people are saying all the stock-style, non-MSD ECUs (whether made by MP, FBO, or generic parts store) will due to their design limitations (which are pretty much the same design since the early '70s - someone correct me if I am wrong).

So, if my ECU is really pulling timing out above 3,500, then I figure that's leaving a lot on the table when I'm racing 1/8 mile. He sells it with a money-back guarantee if you are not satisfied. So I'm thinking of making a pass with my current ECU, taking a few minutes to swap ECUs and adjust timing, making another pass and seeing if it's worth anything at all off my 1/8 mile ET.

I've seen a lot of data from Mopar people I respect and trust showing anywhere from 5-40 hp gains over conventional ECUs and even MSDs.

I also like the idea of the built-in rev-limiter.

67Satty, I don't know anything about the old Fbo boxes but their new ones addressed all the problems you've described as well as a rev limiter. I do like the Revnators built in LED tach.

Yeah, good to know about his new version of the ECU. I've been happy with my "old" setup from him and he's always been great on the phone giving me lots of free advice. The Rev n ator just seems like it might be worth a try and cheaper than starting over with the newest FBO stuff. I don't know if anyone's done a back to back dyno or track comparison between the new FBO ECU and the Rev n ator, I'd be interested in finding out about that.
