Anyone with rusted chrome

We all have had or seen rusted chrome
What fixed are out there that work?
I just found online that wet aluminium foil ball works well removing LIGHT rust without scratching
They also tell me that Vaseline on chrome will help prevent rust.
What have we all heard?
What do we swear with and against?

My test piece might be a bike but chrome is chrome.
Lets hear it.

XXXX Very fine steel wool. No scratches, even on glass. The pitting/corrosion comes from under the top layers of the chrome, so trying to stop it dead in it's tracks would be next to impossible. Once it's started and get's moisture, it's pretty much a continuous cycle to keep it clean. I've found that regular car wax will help on how often it will need to be hit with steel wool.

I've tried aluminum foil on my bumpers and it worked like magic. Make sure the chrome is clean first. It will take more than one piece of foil to do an entire bumper, maybe 3-4, but it works great and is cheap. Coat/polish with wax after.

Wood bleach, couple tablespoons in a gallon of water. Seen it clean up some serious rust on chrome.

Not that I've encountered. The only issue is if the rust is really bad, there will be some pitting of the metal.

I like Navel Jelly ( pink ) Brush it on thick, let sit for several minutes, rinse off. If badly rusted, use some steel wool on the jelly. All that will be left is a tiny black pit where the rust first came thru. Get it at most hardware or automotive parts stores............................MO

I've used navel jelly before, it works well. You will be left with whatever is under it but it's better than rust.

Agreed! Great idea! That would be much easier than the archaic search function (try it sometime...a real time waster)

Autosol and 0000 steel wool. works great on stainless trim as well.

WD-40 sprayed on a scotch brite pad works on heavier rust but 000 fine steel wool is better for polishing

There is a product on the market designed to clean up rusted chrome. It's called Quick Glo, I have used it for years on vintage motorcycles that I wanted to keep original. It is one of those products that you congratulate yourself for being smart enough to use. Amazon will have it.

back in the early 60's I learned about using alum foil with ammonia on those big mid 50's bumpers.

worked like a charm! of course there was a pretty thick layer of chrome back then too.
