Back in the day

I used to make use of these things. BTW It's a tube tester for fixing one's own TV.

I remember going to Radio Shack with my older brother so he could buy tubes and various other parts for radios and TVs he was tinkering with. He was kind of an electronics guru when he was was a teenager. He would bring home dead radios and TVs that he picked up for free and he was able to fix a lot of them.

I built my stereo system from kits.:)--Step by step -solder blue wire A to terminal d--etc.

Heathkit. I built a kit power supply once.

My effort was with "Dynaco" system. I still have them and they work as new.
However a search for value shows them to not be worth shipping to a buyer.
It will be a tough toss to the recycle bin.

Radio Shack filing for bankruptcy again, built a Heathkit 8-trk. player for home one time. Vacuum tube sound for audio is the best-bar none!

Keep the tubes!! What #'s do You have as far as preamp & power tubes?

Though not presently, ive had my share of tube guitar amps over 45 years. Had an Ampeg V-2, which was loaded w 7 different tube types,, 13 tubes all together. 6K11 is an oddball...real short & fat. The V-2 was Kieth Richards road gear during Beggar's Banquet & Let It Bleed tours. Is also what He used on the original studio version of
Sympathy for the Devil.
So i Muck about w tube combinations. Most retail gear today is 12AX7 for preamp tubes, like Marshall. Mesa likes 6L6's for power tubes,,,Fender too. I like to cut back some on gain. At one time, instead of 12AX7 pre's, i went down to 12AU7's,, & in power section, i popped in 5881's in place of 6L6's. Very 'woody' tone.
Im rambling cuz i jus dig the hell out of tubes.....watching the power tubes work under heavy saturation is just cool.

Smashing Pumpkins Siamese Dream on vinyl?

Must have been 1993-ish.
