In 71 I was pumping gas at a Texaco station after school, car would come in for gas,check the oil, if it needed one I'd open the can upside down, keep the can on the shelf. next car would come in , check the oil, if it was fine I'd check it again and not put the stick in all the way so it would show low,sell him a qt for a dollar ,use my empty can with a rag over the end to hide the hole and punch a new hole in the other end. that's how I paid for my smokes when I was 13 and broke

Told you this was going on back then!

Working at one station, the manager wanted everyone pumping gas to check customers oil, then tell them that their fan belts, radiator hoses, or whatever were bad, just to try to get them in the garage. I ratted him out to corporate.

Hell, the two dealerships that I had worked for were ripping people off left and right. I wanted no parts of it and got fired for not doing it. Small time garages were the only place I felt comfortable working in.
