Had a small break over the past few days with the family - school holidays, and the boys wanted something different to do. So we spent some time down south in Rotorua. A small city in the the centre of our North Island - a tourist mecca. Anyhoo, we always make time to take a trip up the Skyline Gondola and have some rides on the famous Luge. This was to be a more memorable trip for me....picked up a few scratches and bruises on my 3rd run down the hill. No horsing around, and no racing....just having a blast and going at a reasonable pace. I blame the fact that I'm a little taller than most, and my knees interfered with my ability to brake as required (in a panic that is) ....video here below was grabbed from YouTube because I left my GoPro setup at the hotel in my haste to get away. Check this out if you haven't seen this ride before....it is truly an experience....

and here is the part of the run down where I went to pull back on the brakes, hit my knee, and ended up slamming the wall sideways at full speed....( I actually flipped the Luge and had it sitting on top of me)

I ended up underneath my cart, with me left foot wedged in the bodywork, my right shoe in the middle of the track, a mouthful of dirt and a heap of scratches and scrapes.
The impact was pretty hard and I was out for a second ....bit of a headache, but the helmet did it's job. I get to the bottom and my older boy asks what took so long....and then saw that I was covered in mud and crap.:D Would have looked awesome on film I'm sure.

On the way down to Rotorua I called in to say hello to Paul aka @70 Viper and checked out the latest progress on the Road Runner....it's coming along nicely. I was pleased to hear that Paul has been getting a lot of helpful advice and tips from the guys here at FBBO:thumbsup:

On the way home earlier today we called in to meet up with Jason aka @Chargerjase - another very cool member here at FBBO. Sadly we couldn't see the car as it was at another location, but we had a great time talking about all sorts of things that will get me into trouble later on  Thanks for your hospitality Jason and Cindy. I can't wait till the weather settles down so I can bring the GTX down your way for a good run. :steering:

It was great to see you Roger and meet your great family. I’m looking forward till the next time we meet up and hopefully go for a blast in your GTX. Hope the battle scars heal soon.

I have to admit to accepting First Aid at the top of the hill afterwards. The guy patching me up looks at me and says "I have to ask.....how old are you?" with the cheekiest grin on his face. I replied with "Old enough to know better!" ....and a very hushed 53.

It appears that weight is a disadvantage to gathering speed.....but definitely a hindrance once said speed is acquired. :steering::steering:

Glad to hear you're OK
would have loved to see a gopro/video of the wreck

sounds like a great family trip too,
ya' gotta' love time with family
it looks like fun, wreck & all

That thought crossed my mind but it was more about the weight being an advantage lol. Those things must have pretty good wheels on them judging by the way you kept catching up lol

It's a shame the brakes weren't as good as the steering....I might have fared a little better.
Although, eating dirt is still eating dirt.....no matter which way you chew it.

Glad to hear yall had a good time and survived your Cole Trickle impersonation!

Had a huge smile on my dial reading your post Roger, and watching the video. Glad it was only first aid required, I have seen much worse injuries from the luge . Looked to be a fair amount of aggressive blocking by all parties on that run haha. It was lucky the weather held out for you on Saturday at least. Was great to catch up with you briefly , and sorry I was so pushed for time as I would have loved to show more of the car !!! A start up and burnout would have been ideal lol.
You just need a cape and we could name you Superman???

Not so sure about Superman....but I did briefly fly.

Looking forward to getting my GTX out for a squirt down the line....maybe we could arrange a tandem burnout? :D
