Had a small break over the past few days with the family - school holidays, and the boys wanted something different to do. So we spent some time down south in Rotorua. A small city in the the centre of our North Island - a tourist mecca. Anyhoo, we always make time to take a trip up the Skyline Gondola and have some rides on the famous Luge. This was to be a more memorable trip for me....picked up a few scratches and bruises on my 3rd run down the hill. No horsing around, and no racing....just having a blast and going at a reasonable pace. I blame the fact that I'm a little taller than most, and my knees interfered with my ability to brake as required (in a panic that is) ....video here below was grabbed from YouTube because I left my GoPro setup at the hotel in my haste to get away.
Check this out if you haven't seen this ride before....it is truly an experience....
and here is the part of the run down where I went to pull back on the brakes, hit my knee, and ended up slamming the wall sideways at full speed....( I actually flipped the Luge and had it sitting on top of me)
I ended up underneath my cart, with me left foot wedged in the bodywork, my right shoe in the middle of the track, a mouthful of dirt and a heap of scratches and scrapes.
The impact was pretty hard and I was out for a second ....bit of a headache, but the helmet did it's job. I get to the bottom and my older boy asks what took so long....and then saw that I was covered in mud and crap.
Would have looked awesome on film I'm sure.
On the way down to Rotorua I called in to say hello to Paul aka @70 Viper and checked out the latest progress on the Road Runner....it's coming along nicely. I was pleased to hear that Paul has been getting a lot of helpful advice and tips from the guys here at FBBO
On the way home earlier today we called in to meet up with Jason aka @Chargerjase - another very cool member here at FBBO. Sadly we couldn't see the car as it was at another location, but we had a great time talking about all sorts of things that will get me into trouble later on
Thanks for your hospitality Jason and Cindy.
I can't wait till the weather settles down so I can bring the GTX down your way for a good run.
